Ponies are creatures who hide in the night and then turn you into one of their own with sudden excessive hugs.

She's a nice lady in purple who looks for interesting people to bring to Gensokyo and can do a lot of hax things with boundaries for the lulz.

I have the Mac Donalds toys, the brushables of the cast, a Comic Con Derpy, and a Twilight plush. If that 4DE Luna plush is reasonably priced, I might pick it up.

Post of the Day #750

Oh yeah....

Well, I give up trying to justify it. Either Twilight or the writers (or both) cannot do math. Or at least this math.

Huh. It's not working for me either. That makes me feel sad

One would expect Twilight to be able to do math, being a nerd.

I'm assuming that quote is referencing Hurricane Fluttersy and the calculation of wingpower.

Why is the Fire Nation so much more powerful than everyone else? They're the only nation that seems to have any sort of industry, they apparently have a greater population than any other tribe (seriously in the first season premier there were more people on Zuko's ship than in the entire south water tribe, and in the finale, one fleet was a match for the entire northern trib), and it seems like none of the other nations can put up any fight beyond a token resistance. The Firebenders apparently just run roughshod over the other nations. Makes me wonder why they need Sozin's Comet in the first place, as they seem to be well on their way to winning the war without it.

The Earth Kingdom is actually much bigger than the Fire Nation and likely has a higher population too. Also, as The Avatar State shows, they have been fighting back, and the Fire Nation has largely been stalled for the last 100 years. The southern Water tribe has already been depopulated by repeated Fire Nation attacks, so it's not a good example.

[up]I dunno, the finale showed the Fire Nation basically obliterating the northern tribe until Aang went Avatar and wrecked them with the earth spirit. If they had attacked a year earlier, they might've taken them down successfully. And then in S2 the Fire nation sacks Omashu without much difficulty. Granted, it's because Bumi surrendered, but given that outside of Ba Sing Se (which hasn't actually appeared onscreen yet), pretty much all the earthbenders shown so far have been resistance movements fighting against a more powerful foe rather than fighting on even terms.

But on the other hand, the earth kingdom is shown to be pretty fragmented anyway. Despite the name, there doesn't seem to be much of a centralized authority, which means each individual earthbending group is fighting independently.

It does make sense in-universe, but it doesn't establish those points when it would be relevant to do so.

So you're complaining that there isn't enough exposition in introductory episodes?

Anyway, we do get flashbacks to the raids on the southern Water trbie in season 3.

Then again, if they did that I'd probably complain about infodumps.

Exactly.

Despite the name, there doesn't seem to be much of a centralized authority,

There is but it's more interested into holding onto its own power then actually fighting the war.

And keep in mind that Ba Sing Se has been successfully resisting attack since at least the time when Iroh was young and in the army.

The original reason for the war... actually may be a bit spoilery. But suffice to say that the Fire Nation didn't necessarily want to decimate the other nations. Just conquer them. The only reason for the Air Nomad genocide was to prevent the next Avatar from stopping them.

As for why they needed the comet so badly? Well, the Earth Kingdom had been putting up a significant resistance, so even if the Fire Nation would win in the long run, the comet's power would give them an instant win. And the sooner you're able to end the war, the better, no matter what side you're on.
