A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Hey, through the Magic of Alicorn Magic, Shining can be anything Cadence needs him to be, so...
Their interactions before and after the love potion make it seems like the have a history - and not a romantic one. I'm not sure if they're out and out friends, but they certainly don't seemed inclined towards one another.
Among other things. Many, many other things.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.![]()
Well, Cheerilee was shown swooning at Big Macintosh in "Filli Vanilli", so at the very least she has a minor infatuation with him.
And yeah, her getting a crush, being a bit nervous, perfectly in character. turning into an insensitive, complete, total, and utter offensive moron over it, not so much.
And the odd thing is, I can't hate the episode. Yeah Applejewel, Spikes reaction, Tabitha's amazing vocal work. there is a ton of great stuff in ti.
Except for the entire plot itself, which is just freaking moronic and an even worse one then SAYS. I like everything in the episode, except everything the episode was about.
Dude, chill. They played it up, yeah, but it's not like there isn't precedent for Rarity acting dumb out of an effort to impress someone. She spent a whole night following Blueblood around. She just got a bit singleminded about impressing somepony who she really really wants to make like her on both a personal (her crush) and professional (she wants a good review for the festival) level.

Reaction Image RepositoryIt's nice that someponybody does.
Gall dangit, I already explained that once! It was just an inside joke about coltbands.
Well sure, but that was actually an infatuation with Fluttershy, she just didn't realize it at the time.
^ And on that note, I'm going back to work before Fleetfoot and Tealove show up.

While quite quickly started to realize what an idiot he was, and simply trying to stick it out because, hey Prince. She wasn't fooled about what he was for any length of time. Just trying to grin and bare it. Not deluded into insulting her friends, acting like an idiot, and just not getting a single hint, while ignoring her actual job. After he showed up, any hint at the 'professional' reason went out the window and all she cared about was "hot guy must be mine no matter how completely freaking obvious it is he doesn't give two shits about me."
And Somepony, yeah that was also bad, but I actually COULD see AJ acting like that. Well okay even then it was a tad over the top, but not to far. but not based on what she actually saw when she got home or just out of nervousness. It was just vastly out of proportion to what had happened. Now, if she had come back to find AB actually had been hurt. Or even walking into a situation where she legitimately thought AB might have been. It would have been easier to buy.

@Mio: Yeah, I found that episode derailed AJ way more than "Simple Ways" derailed Rarity. "Simple Ways" just exaggerated an existing character trait; "Somepony to Watch Over Me" turned Applejack into a Helicopter Mom despite the fact that she's never shown such a ridiculous degree of overprotectiveness. The only other time I can think of that she was really protective of Apple Bloom was "Bridle Gossip", and she had decent reason to be worried in that case.
@Seraphem: The thing is that we've seen in the show that she's let AB do way more dangerous stuff by herself than hanging around alone at home. In "Cutie Pox", Apple Bloom goes all the way to Zecora's on her own, and the CMC have been shown to do dangerous stuff like scuba diving and ziplining with no adult supervision. AJ has no reason to believe that AB is going to be doing anything like that.

Reaction Image Repository@J Teeth: Yeah, it was pretty stupid, but I still found it kind of entertaining.

Oh. . .I'm so sorry.

I can get her being nervous, even MAYBE enough to couble back and check. It is a stretch, but all three of them leaving town completely and leaving AB without anypony to keep an eye on her. yeah I could be some anxiety over that.
What happened after. Yeah way to disproportionate to what ataully happened. The only way I could see that working is if AB had actually gotten hurt, or at the least AJ had a series reason to start thinking she had been.
@Mio: Oh, I'm not debating that it was entertaining. I thought it was a lot of fun. Applejack's character issue is my only real problem with the episode.

As if one stallion is enough to satisfy the living embodiment of love. :P
^ Am I the only one who takes Big Mac and Cheerilee at their word that they're just friends?
