A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Ike: Well, in theory half-centaur would mean quarter-horse, quarter-human and half-minotaur would mean quarter-cow, quarter-human. Add them together to get a quarter-centaur, quarter-horse, half human. >.>
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiWell, I guess for this version, since humans aren't really a thing they gave him more bovine features.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectPresumably, minotaurs are their own race in this setting, rather than each one being the child of a human and a cow. Just because something is half-human, half-something else in classical myth doesn't mean you can't say, "Oh, these minotaurs aren't actually half-human. They just happen to have human-looking features."
Guys, the element of Magic isn't literally about the thaumic sciences. In the context of the elements, magic is friendship. Specifically, desire for, and faith in, friendship. It's why she found the element when she realized how much her new friends meant to her, why she went Discord-gray when she decided to leave her friends and abandon Ponyville, and why the key worked when she chose her friends over (get this) magical power, an inspired Discord to put his faith in friendship again.
Long story short, Twilight being the element of Magic doesn't make her any more powerful in Spellcasting or regulating magical energies.
I have a message from another time...He actually doesn't stay calm that much. Though at least he didn't have a big rant about it like Katara.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayEnlong- She is very skilled with actual magic too. In the words of Gamzee, "can't it be motherfuckin BOTH THINGS?"

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Enlong: Cadance herself explicitly says "Twilight, you represent the Element of Magic. If there is anypony who can do this, it's you." Pretty sure that implies that Twilight has an above-average affinity for it. Not to mention that her cutie mark definitely refers to her ability to cast magic. It's been shown many times in the show that she definitely has an above-average ability regarding all types of magic. Friendship is just the most visible.
Reaction Image RepositoryShe's very skilled with magic, but not because of the element she decided to name Magic.
Open question: when has that element been used to mean literal magic, rather than faith in friendship? Because I don't recall a one from the times it's been used.
I mean, even in this finale, the key didn't come because of literal magic, did it? Heck, she got the key by abandoning magic.

I have a message from another time...The point is Twilight is good with both standard magic and the magic of friendship, and her element could represent both. And part of that expertise would be realizing which type of magic is appropriate for a given situation. I.e. dealing with Tirek she figured out that Friendship Magic is more effective than regular magic.
Also, Applejack attempts to buck Twilight's castle.
I also feel like mentioning that the cutie marks don't really fully sync with the elements, despite having the same shapes. Well, okay, Pinkie does 100%, but then you have stuff like Loyalty/Victory, Generosity/Glamour, and Honesty/Tending an Apple Farm.
With Twilight, it's more like Magic/magic, rather than both meaning the same thing.

Half centaur, half minotaur. How does that even work? That's too many halves. He'd be half human twice for petes sake.
