@Marcen: I'm not going to lie, but I don't think I know how a podcast works. (Being honest, I don't know what a podcast is at all.) I'll think about it, lad.

@Starscream: Definitely in no hurry here. Only got 13 more episodes until me and my two friends finish up the season.

Hmm... I can't help but think of a question relating to which specific pony you'd try to date if you were ponified yourself. -cheese can'd-

Well, it did take both sisters to stop him.

If the flashback is to be believed (which is questionable I know), it was all over in 15 seconds when the two of them showed up. He didn't even get a chance to put up a fight.

That does not imply a villain who is as strong, or stronger then either Celestia or Luna.

Hell if the finale is to be believed, Discord was just one or two Princesses away from being beaten without the elements.

It's likely the flashback is a simplification of what actually happened, or its how Twilight pictures the story as Celestia tells her. After all, Twilight idolises Celestia so she'd imagine her as being super powerful.

[up]Actually I'm pretty certain that flashback was at least partially projected by the funky crystal holocron thing.

If the flashback is to be believed (which is questionable I know), it was all over in 15 seconds when the two of them showed up. He didn't even get a chance to put up a fight.

And in those 15 seconds (assuming that the flashback wasn't shortened), he cursed the Crystal Empire while dealing with them blasting him, something that Celestia didn't think was possible.

Besides, the fact that 2x >> y does not imply that x>y. (Yes, Luna is weaker than Celestia, but they are still comparable in strength)

EDIT: [up]Where'd you get that idea?

EDIT: There's also the fact that it was implied that Luna and Celestia were trying to literally kill him and weren't strong enough.

Yeah, but that was with the EOH, which is an instant win button against Discord.

Edit: Oh, I thought you were talking about Discord. Carry on.

He didn't even get a chance to put up a fight.

This is another thing that isn't true. He had the chance to curse the empire (shows how spiteful he is that he did that rather than take out a Princess or something).

[up][up][up]Just because Celestia didn't think it could happen does not imply that he is stronger in terms of pure magical force.

And yes I know that just because both are stronger then him does not mean that one of them is stronger then him, but I see nothing that suggest that is the case.

[up][up]I see no elements, nor the implications of their use in the episode. Nevermind.

[up]Are we sure that is what he did in his last moments, or something he prepared a while ago. Either way with that kind of ability you would think he would channel that towards defending himself.

And what does him being spiteful have to do with his magical ability/ raw magical strength?

The very fact that Celestia brought Luna suggests that, for a start. It would be a tactically idiotic move to bring Luna if she doesn't need her as it leaves Equestria effectively undefended. And this was a Celestia that current Celestia claims underestimated him. ie. He is stronger'' than Celestia thought even though Celestia thought that she was not likely to beat him alone.

Then, again, not killing him despite implying that they were trying to.

And again, cursing the Empire while fighting both of them.

EDIT:

And what does him being spiteful have to do with his magical ability/ raw magical strength?

Nothing. I was just commenting because I also noticed this:

Either way with that kind of ability you would think he would channel that towards defending himself.

ie. He was spiteful enough to choose to do that rather than defend himself better.

In any event, Celestia thinks it's something he did in response to being attacked.

[up]Every time we hear about the sisters exploits it's always them together. I think it is a safe assumption that when ever they did anything they did so together, even if it was not technically tactically sound.

Also, where was it implied that they were trying to kill him?

If Sombra was an Elements of Harmony-level threat, I figure Celestia would have sent them along with Twilight.

Not when you could devote your time to making the armor the Pegasus need, or the pikes Earth ponies need instead.
Providing armaments to two nations that they are not on particularly good terms with strikes me as a pretty terrible idea.

If I were Celestia and had even an inkling of doubt in my mind, I'd bring Luna. I'd think that in-universe, just like real life, would have no concrete way of gauging power levels. There's too many factors to consider and luck can easily cause the tables to turn. While there's no guarantees, approaching a fight 2 on 1 is a pretty concrete advantage.

And they'd want as much advantage as they can get, because when it comes to life and death, even being on equal footing is too much of a risk. Taking down Sombra would be at best a pyrrhic victory if Celly ended up dying of her wounds afterwards or being too incapacitated to return to ruling her country.

@Wryte Sombra then learnt the hard way about crime when he realised he wasn't entitled to a fair trial. And not even Phoenix Wright will bail him out on that one.
