A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I don't really mind the RP designs much. They're a bit on the gaudy side, but as a one-time power-up they aren't that bad.
Reaction Image Repository@Star. Nah, I mean FIM too. Come on, we've got the CMC, pretty much all of the second pilot episode is Narm Charm at best, the finale revolves around a big bad removing ass tattoos called cutie marks, they use rainbows and friendship to defeat enemies, and we have a pink hyperactive party girl named Pinkie Pie.
It's a little amusing if you step back a little. I love it, but yes it is cheesy. But in a good way.
@ Kalloon: It depends on where you go, I guess. I haven't seen much complaining here at all. I don't go to 4chan (or Derpibooru, nowadays), but I can only imagine the drama-fest.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I just want to say that the scene of tirek ripping off the doors to the throne room was really freakin awesome.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Well, that's why you ignore those places. But yeah, it was rough but, he proved he really DID change, and the rest of the cast are actually ready to REALLY start trusting him and treating him like a freind now. It was some pretty massive character development.
Really, look at his actions after hi betrayal. Yeah he wanted to cut lose and go without friendship, but just look at the little things. It showed he was trying to actually become friends with Tirak. wanting him as a compatriot. he's toed the line mostly just becuase he liked Flutters, and Flutters alone, but now he realizes just how much he wants friendship, period. So yeah this was a pretty massive bit of development for him, LOVED IT!
I'll be honest, for a while I was expecting that Discord was just leading Tirek on. Like, "Oh, I just wanted to show you that noone is pulling my strings", then magic! Sham, zow, pow!
I mean, wouldn't have made for a cohesive final battle, but they could have had him wait just long enough he could lose the fight or something... ah well.
I liked the finale a lot, overall. There was some cool stuff, and the song were really neat, but I'll admit the RP designs and the Crystal Tree Castle of Harmony and Love kinda felt... off, to me. And the stained glass window of Twilight. They're trying to hide all Alicorn magic inside her, and they just leave a giant stained-glass window proclaiming her existence laying around?

Honestly, Discord is not that smart. If he wasn't going to realize that his own magic had been countered in Ro H, then he wasn't going to come up with a plan for Tirek and was bound to be fooled by him.
Maybe they would've passed it off as a historical figure or something.
But yeah, overall I thought the finale was really good. There were a few rough elements (Celestia not adequately explaining her decisions, and Discord's flip-flop could've been handled a bit better), but overall I think it worked really really well. It had a ton of stuff going on, but it managed to be cohesive and not feel rushed. Discord's bit might have been a bit sudden, but I really like the fact that they managed to give him a real character arc rather than just flopping him over to the good side without ever following up on it.
But most of all, it was damn fun to watch.
Reaction Image RepositoryWell, I'm not sure I'd call him stupid... he can be manipulative enough when he wants to be, which takes smarts... I'd say he's probably just overconfident. Still, fair enough there.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. The scene of the stained-glass window melting must have been CGI'd. It looked quite different. I was impressed.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Discord strikes me as a Brilliant, but Lazy type. Sure he could think his way out of the situation, but why bother? Not to mention that most of the time, his reality warping powers means he doesn't have to think too hard about anything. He only does when he wants to. Think of what happened when he tried to corrupt Fluttershy. He starts out trying to manipulate her, and as soon as he realizes it won't be easy, he says "screw it" and uses his power.
