A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Tiara and Spoony were probably sticking their tongues out at Tirek when they were targeted, and called him quite a few things not suitable for sensitive ears.
Though before then you can bet they used all the precious seconds they had to call everypony they could blank flank.

Just seen the finale. And OMG is it AWESOME!!!
![]()
![]()
It basically has it all: The creepies, an old old villain taking a lead role, mythological references, an Alicorn quartet, the Reveal of the best In Plain Sight Foreshadowing I've seen since Negima, tough moral choices, Discord being Crazy Awesome, OMGWTFBBQ magical fights (someone's been watching Dragon Ball), Power Overwhelming, SSJ Ponies, bucketloads of shipping bait, and The Power of Friendship at its awesomest.
If there's something that I feel was not played to its fullest, Why didn't Discord play Loki on Tirek? He was perfectly set up for this, and yet... On the other hand, even with everything he ever did, Discord has always been honest. Yes, he had screwed with everyone, but he had never lied, kinda like a Fae. Still, it seemed a 'little' weird for him to fall for Tirek's false promises so easily. I've honestly been expecting him to pull LOLNope on the old demon.
@Japanese Teeth
: Agreed. We have both the foreknowledge and the gritty cynicism to realize those were not good decisions. Then again, see above.
None of the alternatives were very good to be honest. Discord's magic is sufficiently different that for it to be immune to absorption wasn't that far-fetched. And given Tirek's power, it was perfectly reasonable to assume they wouldn't have done much but feed him even more energy.
As for Twilight wanting more: she got the whole Alicorn thing dropped on her, and at first didn't want to have anything to do with it, but as time passed, she felt that her ascension had a reason, and that she should be doing something to fulfill her mentor's expectations. Surely there's a purpose to all this. Yet all she ever seems to be doing is smile and wave. She was made an alicorn. Why? She's not a useless accessory.
Und wenn du lange in einen Abgrund blickst, blickt der Abgrund auch in dich hinein.
...Wrong acronym. VERY wrong.
Holy shit, I just watched it and it was amazing!
It would be amusing if after losing their magic ponies turned back into regular horses. No?
Damn it Discord. I was saying "I don't care if it's TV Y, just die" this whole time, but if he's really reformed Discord this time, I can overlook it.
Their Rainbow Power designs still look ridiculous, but at least it went away quickly. Acceptable.
Otherwise, everything was awesome. Best. Fight scene. In recent memory.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.I don't get the "Nice Job Fixing It, Villain"
entry. How exactly did Tirek breaking his promise to Discord give the mane 6 the final key?

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartThe way I read Twilight's attitude is that at first she was "Well, I wasn't really looking for this, but Celestia must have had a reason, so I'll go with it". Then over the course of the season, no purpose materializes, so by the time the finale rolls around, she's starting to doubt whether Celestia actually had a good reason for the ascension. She's okay with being a princess as long as it means something; that's what she was starting to doubt.
Reaction Image RepositoryMore like Hoist by His Own Petard . And still not quite that.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.DT: This is all so scary and stuff, but ya know what I just realized Spoon?
SS: If our parents are drained, then how are we getting our allowance?
DT: No! Or, well yes, that is important too. I was just going to say that of course. But if everypony here's drained, then that means...
SS: We're the only fillies with cutie marks!
SS and DT together: Blankflankblankflankblankflankblankflank!
SS: Um Tiara, but doesn't that mean we'll become blank flanks too?
Cue the Oh, Crap! reaction as they're drained, still having expressions between smugness and surprise.
They got their DBZ in My Little Pony.
After watching that finale, I can finally agree with all the fans who accuse Twilight of being a Canon Sue.
"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."So that's what's in the box, a super advanced power and a palace for Twilight and all her friends to rule with even Spike getting a throne! Discord will have to wait.
Every attempt to link to the Twilight's Kingdom recap page has led to a broken link. It inserts a line break into the URL.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Now see, I thought Celestia was making a bad decision because her reasoning was nonsensical. If Tirek knew about Cadance, he would have known about Twilight. Even if he didn't know about either, then if she really thought Discord had turned, it makes no sense to think that he wouldn't share the info about Twilight. Twilight may have been the right choice in the end, but there is absolutely no reason that Celestia could have to think that she would be hidden from him.
okay, time to watch pone!
yes, spike, we remember.
dignitaries?
holy cow, Twilight is worried about wheat the fandom has been thinking all through season 4!
oh, hey Flash.
Oh, Neighbuchadnezzar, and queen Amidala were a duke and duchess?
way to say it like it is, Spike.
woah, Neighbuchadnezzar sounds awesome!
song time? song time!
all princesses singing!
eh, that song was okay.
meanwhile, in a dark and lonely alley...
magic absorption!
woah, backstory!
oh man, referencing stuff from that far back!?
yep, discord is still discord.
the box!
of course discord and tirek know eachother.
"C'mon, Discord, you used to be cool!" -tirek
alright Twilight, pull it all together!
okay, good, they're not gonna do a flashback for everypony.
and the objects turn into the keys. Good job, pinkie!
villain team up!
voluntary depowerment!
next up, part 2!

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!@CDRW: Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal was with that either, especially as Tirek's been free since season 2. Though she did have one valid point in that Twilight is the Element of Magic and thus would be more capable of handling that power.
Maybe they hang out offscreen or something. Discord is probably an awesome Oubliettes and Ogres GM.
Also, plot I'd like to see in S5: Twilight runs into a problem that falls under the purview of one of the other Princesses. I.e. she runs into some problem that say, is more of a love issue than a friendship issue, and she has to call Cadance in rather than trying to do it herself. It would give the other princesses something to do, and make Twilight less of a catch-all character.

@71024: Yeah, but think of the collateral damage. The Elements of Harmony stops Discord and undoes all his magic. Would killing him outright do the same?
