A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

It's not impossible to make it work, but it will take a steady hand.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI don't think a lot of non-comic fans will recognize him. They just want us to recognize him. For some reason. I don't really get it.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I have no idea. I think DC thinks they can mooch off people who fans of the Teen Titans animated series because are older now. That's the only reason I'd be interested. But after what they did to Starfire in the comic reboot... >:I

We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff. Before the show, she was sexualized as much as any other comic book woman, but as I understand it, most of her character in the show was in the comics as well.
She was an alien princess, new to earth and its cultures and eager to explore, and tended to be very passionate about most things. Now she has no passion, no emotional connection to anything at all. Now she's just a sex object instead of a sexualized person.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/In general, I'm just not a huge fan of the "cram ALL the characters into the movie!" mentality that pretty much every superhero movie has fallen into lately. With the exception of The Avengers, the quality of the movies tend to decrease with every additional character added in. I mean, look at say, the Iron Man franchise. I think the first movie was the strongest primarily because it only had Iron Man and Iron Monger; it gave more time to develop those characters. Each subsequent film tried to stuff more things in, and it didn't feel as cohesive. Same deal with the original Spiderman trilogy. Green Goblin? Great. Dr. Octopus? Great. Sandman, Venom, and Green Goblin II? Not so much. I just can't see the JLA thing working out; every new piece of info I get about it makes me more and more skeptical that it'll turn out well.
The way I understand it, the cartoon was basically a case of Adaptation Distillation; the core of the character is the same as the comics, but it trimmed out all the needless "edgy" and "sexy" stuff and made her a bit more innocent. And apparently the new one not only reverted her to the old version, but also changed some of her base characterization. That said, I'm not really very familiar with the comics.

Reaction Image Repository@Irish: I have no knowledge of the Teen Titans that isn't the cartoon or Linkara. If I have to make my two cents, Starfire was sexualized in the past but what makes the reboot so erroneous was the fact that DC missed the point as to why a reader would want to see Starfire post 2000's cartoon.
We are all made of star stuff. Very, very weird star stuff.Yeah, by all accounts, most people preferred the cartoon version of the character, which makes the decision to reboot the comic version as not being remotely the same is just baffling.
Reaction Image RepositoryNot me. I never visit the spoiler thread. I was watching MLP with my mom though. (In addition to Rescue At Midnight Castle, we also watched MMC and Three's A Crowd.)
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayNot me. I never visit the spoiler thread.
True. You just post the spoilers here.
Anyway, what did your mom think of the episodes?
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out! They are so doomed.
I agree, with the exception of The Lego Movie.
Also this
The version I saw was 22 minutes, but it also had the opening and closing credits of both episodes included. Was there a longer original one?
Only if someone else already posted them here.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@dark: That's barely any time to tell a coherent story.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Story: The Lego Movie is a different thing entirely.
Anyway, I have to get to bed now. I am tired. All the talk about butts tired me out.

Yeah. I heard they were pushing him in the comics, and he has been making some appearances in recent adaptations, but he's still not nearly as big a name as the Big Three. I'm just not sure a lot of people who don't read the comics will be familiar with him, outside of possibly recognizing him from Teen Titans.
