A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

It was a pretty continuity-heavy episode overall, I guess.
For a second I thought Celestia was holding a sandwich to her head... or a waffle.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Nice moral this episode. If you keep letting past failures hold you back, no praise in the world will make you feel better.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectHow long do you figure until someone misinterprets the moral and complains that the episode encourages kids to forget their failures and refuse to take responsibility in favour of being happy?
... you know I hit the 'Add Post' button with intent to take what I was writing at least vaguely seriously, but in the end it feels like a stretch even for the most unhinged people. Oh, there'll be some, sure, but even so.

My heart kind of swelled at that moral.

I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Well no duh, it's all a lot of those places do is bitch, no matter what. Though yeah the ep is getting a lot of flak for being a let down to the Games arc, which I agree it was a pretty poor end to something built up so long. But annoys me that people hold the failing of the arc as a whole against the episode in and of itself.
Post of the Day #731
I also liked the overall character interaction (even if DT & SS are a tiresome plot device), and I liked how Scootaloo reacted to her lack of flight ability, but that's probably coming from seeing a lot of fan fics really pour on the angst over that (and that's not even getting into orphan/homeless issues).
@Post of the day: I was going to say that the complete absence of Scootaloo's parents from "The Equestria Games" was pretty strong evidence that she's an orphan, but then I remembered that Sweetie Belle's parents weren't there either. So it doesn't really mean anything.

@Sera: Well yeah, there were going to be complaints no matter what, but lets be honest, this episode could have been better if they did several things different.
I'm going to air on the side of forgiveness and say that there really wasn't much opportunity or flexibility this season to really do it well.

Oh hey, I actually wrote that.
I really do wonder if they never planned and still haven't decided what's Scootaloo's familial situation. I just assume she lives with different relatives. Grandparents, or an Aunt and Uncle perhaps.

To me. There's no way they could do both a Games and Spike-centered episode in one. With a finale ahead, it'd probably be awkward to have 3 two-parters in a season, and if the script for last week's ep was already done by then, their hands were tied. So it was either focus on the Games, or focus on Spike' they couldn't really do both.

What is up?
