I was definitely well past the demographic Harry Potter was aimed at when it came out and so it kind of missed the mark and after about twenty pages, it failed to hook me. Probably didn't help that I had plenty of other things demanding my attention at the time. One of these days I do want to get around to giving it another shot, though.

@Marcen I'd always listen to the audiotapes of the first book and I think I've read book 5 up to the Deathly Hallows. And surprisingly the latter I've not seen the film adaptations for that one.

I do think the first two installments are purely for kids, and therefore harder to get into when you're older. The third book was probably the first "all ages" book and it was much better for it.

My favourite was defiantly the Prisoner of Azkaban.

It's probably my favourite too. Goblet of Fire is a close second.

@Favorite Harry Potter book: I'm not too sure honestly. It's literally been years since I read the books.

On another note, I yield some fair news regarding college: I'm getting that associate's degree with a focus on accounting!

I vaguely even recall Goblet of Fire I know it was about a tournament or something but otherwise blank for me. I don't know why I just don't.

@Star I remember when it took me 2 weeks to finish the 1st book. The 2nd time took me one day. The Goblet of Fire is damned fine. I should someday buy all the books and movies.

@Star I remember watching both Deathly Hallows installments in one day...the 1st part was the 2nd time I watched it and the 2nd was the 3rd time.

Whatever, and yeah I really don't care for the movies, after four it just became to annoying seeing all the stuff they had to cut out or ignore.

Three was the nadir for me.

The 1st two movies were ok movies but the 3rd one was where, in my opinion, was when it started getting good.

Okay, so I'm messing around on Linux Mint, trying to get a good wallpaper. I found an image I like but it isn't the right size.

I tried editing it in Gimp, and Gimp is very confusing. I finally found "resize canvas" and I did that, and even centered the image so just the edges had to be fixed up, but it won't let me fill the edges with the bucket tool. The "canvas" is bigger, but the "image" is not. I think. And I don't know how to fix that.

I tried doing the same thing in Inkscape, but I can't even find the resizing tool I need. I can scale the image to make the entire thing bigger or smaller, but it doesn't look like I can just grab the edges and expand them.

This is irritating.

After you resize the canvas, try going up to image -> flatten image. I think. I don't have GIMP open in front of me and I don't remember exactly where everything is.

Ike: I don't remember the exact wording, but under the Layer menu, there should be an option to expand it to the canvas size.

@Harry Potter Discussion: I Agree with the 3rd book being the best. The moral conflict when they come to the realization that The Good Guys Aren't was nice. However, the thing I liked most was the Time Turner, which sadly needed to be nerfed so the series didn't become a time travel story.

My least favourite HP film was 4, which was also my favourite book.

I was also the right age for the HP books.

I have a real soft spot for them, especially considering many other things of read which make HP look brilliant in comparison. Even among the greats. As much as I like Tolkien, he could really waffle about stuff that no one cares about.

EDIT: 3 is my sister's favourite book and my third favourite. The middle books were generally the best though.
