A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

The puppeteer did have a point at the beginning. How ornate the puppet theatre is doesn't matter a whole lot when there's not enough room to manipulate the puppets. Also, I like the guy's voice.
I have to wonder why Spike thought it'd be a good idea to search the old castle for spells that would help instead of, you know, just asking Twilight if she had any lying around.
Spike & Rarity: "GEE, THIS BOOK THAT LOOKS LIKE IT'S DESIGNED TO BLUDGEON SOMEONE MORE THAN BE READ SURE SEEMS TRUSTWORTHY."
I'm sure Spike is going to get some wicked indigestion. Things that are Made of Evil don't tend to agree with the stomach.
Rarity makes a great insane artist kind of villain.
And finally, honesty seems to be the universal counterspell.
So, a good episode, but it needed to go a bit crazier. They had some room to be slightly more over the top, but they didn't quite push it.
But it wasn't rushed, Rarity makes a great crazed villain, and Spike had dignity throughout.

Just a little bit. There just needed to be a slightly more dramatic build. What she did was fairly bad, it just seemed a bit slow.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSo, episode.
It was, OK. Rarity was amusing, but I elt like it could have done more. It was not over the top enough. Too mundane, the beginning dragged where the climax could have used it, and the pacing just grinded to a hault after S Pike says no and things went to normal too fast.
Also, there should have been more insanity. Episodes can be over the top, like parasprites destroying Ponyville was hilarious because it worked for the episode. Here, a fashioist dictator tries to glamorize Ponyville and barely any drama happens.
In short, it's serviceable, but they really could have done more with the premise.
@Irish: I was hoping. The potential was there, and the episode is otherwise fine to me, but it needed more chaos.

"Come to Ponyville, where the streets are paved with gold!"

I can see why Nightmare Rarity would be a scary villain. Rarity definitely had 'evil creative overlord' down pat.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThe Spike/Owlowiscious dynamic is fantastic and needs to be explored more often.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectSpike: Oh, hey, Twilight. Wow, you look like shit! ...What? Just being honest.

Spike's Dragon magic makes him naturally resistant to magic, at worst he'd get indigestion from the Old Book taste.
