A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I may be misrembering, but I didn't think DT's approval of Pinkie's party was gruding.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI don't think she was unhappy to say it so much as she wanted to remain aloof, or seem as though she had high standards. There's that cool person embargo and actually liking stuff, after all.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Ah, the whole can't admit to actually liking something thing. Reminds me a lot of Rd, actually.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayHey guys. I return.
And now I go off to search for the new episode before it gets spoiled.
Reaction Image RepositoryWhew. I was afraid everyone was celebrating.
Watching the episode now. RD is being such a fangirl.
I smell a Chain of Deals.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, I'm really liking it so far.
EDIT: Okay, I really enjoyed it. It's not exactly the most deep episode the show has done, but it was a lot of fun and had some great Rarijack and Flutterdash shipping fuel character interactions.

Reaction Image Repository@Wryte: Yeah, that was really my only complaint about the episode. It's like they went out of the way to state the moral even though it was blatantly obvious. Felt like gilding the lily. Really good otherwise, though
@Seraphem: The thing with the journal is that it's a bit more needless than the letters. There was a good in-universe reason for the letters, but the journal's reason is a bit unnecessary. The whole "writing for the benefit of future generations" thing falls a bit flat because functionally it's exactly the same as the letters. The fact that they haven't really changed any makes it stick out more as a plot device.

Reaction Image RepositoryWhile I don't think they're worse in and of themselves, I'll admit the fact that they're basically changing the fluff but not the mechanic, as it were, is a bit... sore-thumby.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Kegisak: Pretty much. It's not that the journal is bad in and of itself, its that journal is a blatant excuse state the morals.
This is the background I'm using now.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah I miss the letters.
Granted having other members of the Six write letters and it's infrequency throughout season 3, as well as Super Cider basically saying AJ already knew her lesson sho the formula wasn't working by then, but it's still an expected device.
You could argue the letters were really only important to season 1 and the first half of two, where Twi being knew gave justification to their importance.

Diamond Tiara has openly mocked Abblebloom's family before. At best she's shown grudging appreciation for Pinkie's parties. There's no evidence that she looked up to the Mane Six before then and decent evidence of the opposite.
EDIT: What Seraphem said.
