A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@Ike: I'm sort of neutral about paradoxes. Most of the time it just follows the main timeline, where the events were averted (e.g. you go back in time To stop a certain event happening, but it makes you from the timeline where it DID happen cease to exist, and thus can't have changed it in the first time). They don't make much sense scientifically, but neither does most things in SF or F(logically).
"Moody Stops Bicycle Theft, Takes No Prisoners"- Harry Potter and the Natural 20No, the real problem is that fiction invaribly treats time travel as a plot device rather than actually examining the implications. But when it's handled properly, it's awesome. See Primer, Achron.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayGlad I wasn't the only one who had to ask.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayStory- I agree that not examining time travel is dumb. But a story that makes no logical sense because of paradoxes rims the story that is being told.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Logience- no, it's not a throwaway line. It's an explanation, a statement that the kids did not care about Twilight, the just care about the princess. If Twilight weren't a princess the rest of the episode wouldn't have occurred. "Oh, you're being tutored by that geek who lives in the library? Who cares."
Crow- thank you.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Crow: But DT is exactly the sort of person that would only be interested in someone if they were royalty/noble class, or popular/suckup. She doesn't really reflect the views of everybody, as the only other person that seems to be like her is SS(for foals).
"Moody Stops Bicycle Theft, Takes No Prisoners"- Harry Potter and the Natural 20Paradoxes can be handled perfectly well (see the works I mentioned before). I'm not sure what your argument is unless you just have trouble understanding paradoxes.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play... Okay. Let me explain my problem with paradoxes in the context of Homestuck.
The Alpha kids are cloned in a lab in Sburb, and sent through a portal to Earth.
The DNA for the clones... Came from the clones that are sent to Earth.
There is no source for their DNA. It emerges from nowhere.
This is a problem. The characters' very existence is a paradox. They have no point if origin so it doesn't make sense for them to even exist. And since the Beta kids were created using DNA from the Alpha kids, it makes no sense for them to exist either. The same applies to the trolls.
Based on this information, how can the story even happen???
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/You are the second person to use that explanation and fuck that bullshit.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Well there's your problem. You're not supposed to take the plot seriously. Homestuck doesn't take itself seriously.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

Correct- it had to do with her being a princess.
