A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Also, no new episode? Honestly, I have stuff to do, so I don't mind too much. ^_^
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.@Cookoo Awesome! I haven't played pokemon in a few months because I beat it.

@Sereg: Done.
As for the new writers, I think it's largely just a case of them having to adapt to the new show. There are some weaker episodes (Daring Don't, Power Ponies, Simple Ways), but there are also a lot of strong ones (Rarity Takes Manehattan, Pinkie Apple Pie, Pinkie Pride, Maud Pie, Testing Testing 1, 2, 3); the overall ratio doesn't really seem that different from previous seasons.
Reaction Image RepositoryMaud Pie was written by a new writer, and that was the funniest damn thing I've seen this season.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAlso, they need to decide what to keep in continuity with past information we know in the world and characters, and which not to.
Other episodes I do like are "Rarity Takes Manehattan" and "Maud Pie". ........ Pinkie is just hitting all the marks this season! Except for when she's out of focus, like in "Filli Vanilli".
"Maud Pie" was hypothetically an easy episode for a new writer to break out his/her pony skills, because the majority of the plot revolved around a totally new character.

Apart from Daring Don't of course.

I suppose, but now we have knowledge that anything in a Daring Do book actually happened, there are just enchanted comic books, there are loads and loads of pony holidays, an insect species that relies on other animals to survive because they are totally helpless on their own and live in another dimension, gigantic ground worms, suspicious princess statuses and duties, and a tree that gives ya a book if you place gems on its branches? How are they going to make sense of all this?? Or am I trying to look too hard into a show with talking candy-colored ponies with wings and horns?
Also, I think all the writers unanimously hate Spike. With a passion.

Honestly, outside of Daring Don't, I don't think any of that stuff is problematic. I mean, it's not like they haven't introduced new species of creatures out of nowhere for the sake of a plot point (parasprites), plot points (the Crystal Heart), or giant freaky monsters (Hydra, Ursa Minor, Dragons). Unless it actively contradicts something previously established, I'm not seeing the problem. They've always had a tendency to introduce new stuff like that. Like, I don't understand why everyone complains so much about the breezies when the Parasprites don't really make any more sense as a species, or why the Tatzlwurm is supposedly any weirder or more out of place than Cerberus or an Ursa Minor.
Also, I don't think that they hate Spike so much as they don't really know what to do with him. The main issue is that he gets lumped in with the Mane Cast despite not having their level of emotional maturity, and as a result he comes across more as a Tagalong Kid rather than a character in his own right.

Reaction Image RepositoryEquestria is just a weird place. It didn't feel jarring at all to have a Tatzlwurm show up.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIf anything, the Changelings should've had a massive effect on everything, given the whole "you can never be sure that you're talking to the real person" factor. After that I think it's pretty clear that it takes something really big to really shake the status quo.
