A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@Star I have watched all of the NC videos. Some are not that great but I'll watch them anyway. On his site, I watch Film Brain, Cinema Snob, Todd, Rap Critic. I haven't watched his Bum Reviews in a while and I've watched his VGC videos over 4 times so I'm ok. Havent watched many of his Adventure Time V-Logs.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qFirst off, there's no Mage class in D&D, though there is a Warmage class.
Anyway, the best answer would be to just read the class descriptions. But Ihere's a summary
- Wizard: The classic arcane caster and one of the most powerful classes in the game (tier 1). It can learn any wizard spell in the game, of which are are hundreds, possibly thousands. And it's part of core, meaning it was written before WOTC figured out balanace, so it gets access to all the powerful Core spells.
- Sorceror: The other classic arcane caster. It has similar power to the Wizard but highly limited versatility (tier 2). It has access to nearly the same spell list as the wizard, but they can only pick a limited number of spells to know, and unlike the Wizard, they can't change their spells every day. Also, they get access to spells one level later then the wizard. The one upside is that they can cast spontaneously.
- Warmage: This is basically a caster limited to blasting people with fireballs, lightning etc. Unfortunately this is all they can do and they don't even get the really good blasting spells. (tier 4). Warmage was created as part of a series of full-list spontanoues arcane casters with limited themed spell lists (Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Warmage). It also suffers from MAD since it needs both int and charisma
- Witch: This is a highly obscure Sorceror variant suggested in the DMG. It's basically the same as the Sorceror except that it has a different, limited spell list. It's never been rated due to obscurity, but it would probably be a tier 2 also, since the spell list still gets some of the best spells despite being highly limited.")
Here's the original 3.5 tier list
. Classes carried over to Pathfinder are largely the same, except that the Paladin moved up to tier 4.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but there are two freeze frame screens that everyone should use for a flat what:
1. Twilight's face after Rainbow laughs after seeing her picture of Twilight in the book
2. Rarity's face when Applejack throws her hat across the room after telling Rainbow that Rarity's way of studying didn't work for her.
@Mars I thought his Peal Harbor review was funny and his Mask one was ok.

https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615q@Marcen He also did vlogs for Avatar the Last Airbender along with Korra so yeah. As for other peeps on TGTWG I have watched quite a bit of Linkara and a bit of Film Brain....for some reason.
@Marston Hmm, gotten better ya say huh? Point me to some of his new reviews and I might think about it.
"Transform and Roll out!" Optimus PrimeI think the wizard method of preparing a set list of spells is stupid. Sorcerors sound much better.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Well having to prepare spells isn't as big a limitation as it seems at first. Especially in 3.5. Mainly because there are several abilities that let you cast spontaneously with limitations, and even without that you can just parepare spells that are good in a wide variety of circumstances.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Star His Face/Off review was funny, The WORST Christmas Special was funny. Also, his reviews of The Last Airbender, Sailor Moon, Les Miserables, Turbo: A Power Rangers movie, Top 11 South Park Episodes and Dawn of the Commercials.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qYeah, a lot of spells, if used creatively, can be a lot more versatile than they seem at first. Like, shrink person could be used to depower an enemy, or it could be used to fit someone through a small gap, or to intimidate someone into giving you information, etc. etc.
There's also the fact that you generally know what you're going to be doing a while in advance. So, while your DM might throw you curveballs now and then you generally know what will be useful for what you're gonna do that day. If you're heading down into a dungeon, a few combat spells, some buff spells, and some utility spells are good. If you're gonna be tracking someone, load up on buffing spells for your teammates. If you're going into a fight, combat spells errywhere.
By contrast, sorcerers and similar classes tend to have specific 'tricks' they do, which aren't as versatile. My Orcale/Rogue only has enough spells to really pull off one combat scenario. Aside from that, the spellcaster elements just aren't very useful. A sorceror might pick only one powerful combat spell and focus on utility for the rest, making them more versatile, but if something comes up that's resistant to that spell they suddenly become useless. It's a balancing act.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. Then in 3.5 you get stuff like Polymorph, which is both buffing and utility. There is almost nothing that can't be solved with the proper application of Polymorph.
Another thing is that it only takes 15 minutes to prepare a new spell. So if you expect to need a situational utility spell, you can just leave a slot open. Or get a scroll.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Star Alright, cool! What was the 1st NC video you've ever watched? Mars, you can jump in too?
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qMan this thread is so addicting. I keep getting sucked in when I have a major project due tonight that I need to work on.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Star Ah. I started watching when his latest video was for Waterworld but the 1st video I remember seeing was for The Room. Prefect start for me. Maybe that's why don't like it but you've seen things slowly change, I'm guessing.
@Story Good! GOOD! Let the addiction flow through you.

https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615q@Mars Star and I were discussing our 1st NC videos we watched. Yours?
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qWow, I never realized rogues and fighters were so low on the tier list. It makes me sad too. I had a fighter who was so OP she was basically a walking blender and nobody else had the chance to get involved in fights, but was completely useless outside of a fight. I eventually had to retire her in order to give the other players room.
@Star Oh yeah I know. You've told me before. In my opinion, I LOVED his videos after Kickassia. His Jaws 3D video is easily in my top 20 fav NC episodes.

I think I understand.
