A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@JT: Fair enough.
So, we've had quite the solid run of episodes, all things considered. Maud Pie, For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils, Leap of Faith and this one.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAlso, I think that "She can do anything if it can be connected to flying" is really oversimplifying the issue. It's not a question of "she only cares about Flying related stuff" so much as the fact that she's been doing so for so long that her brain processes information a certain way, and she has to take advantage of that. I doubt she's better at learning stuff by flying than Twilight is at learning stuff by reading, or than Pinkie Pie is at learning things with music. It's just that for her, learning while flying is the way she processes and retains information most effectively. Like how some people remember stuff better if they doodle, or if they listen to music while they study.
Yeah, we've had a really solid run of episodes. I mean, this one had Adorkable Twilight, Fluttershy's animal play (with Celestia played by Angel), Pinkie's rap. Lots of good stuff.
EDIT: Okay, this isn't related to the episode
, but if you've seen The Rock this is awesome.

Reaction Image Repository@JT:I guess the structure of the episode was, like you said, not quite there, but it's forgiveable, and it doesn't detract from the fact that the episode was very character-driven and had a very creative ending.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYeah, all things considered, I think it was a pretty minor issue. Other than that the episode was great.
I have done nothing productive all day

@Jt: Why do I get the feeling that's gonna be edited?
Into a... thing.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Technically, any card in their world is a Flash card.
Anyway, I'm surprised they were able to get away with "Commander Firefly". Did copyright stuff change hands since the show began? Because the reason Rainbow Dash is Rainbow Dash is because she couldn't be Firefly.

I have a message from another time...Rainbow Dash leaning on her stool reminds me of Orbital, who actually did make a song with a wooden chair's creaking as an "instrument".
Creaks start 4:14 into the song.

@Mio: From what I remember, as soon as she realized she was screwed, she did start putting in more effort. For everything after the realization she was paying attention to what they were trying to teach her. The issue is that the realization didn't come until after we had spent a third of the episode on Twilight's attempts to get her to take it seriously. If they had put the pop quiz at the beginning, and showed her trying and failing to absorb the info from Twilight, and everything after that would have played fine. She did realize that she had to put the effort in, it's just that after she started doing so, the teaching methods were all failures.
TL;DR if they'd have put RD's "oh crap I need to study" moment earlier in the episode it would've pretty much smoothed out the issue, IMO. Move the "pop quiz" to the front with Twilight gauging RD's current level of knowledge, have her lecture and be boring, and everything else comes across fine.
