A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Yeah, I used to draw a lot in class because it was a relatively simple activity that could occupy my mind enough that I wouldn't drift off from a lesson. Teachers used to be bothered by it until they realized that I could answer all their questions perfectly, and then they never bothered me about it. In fact, I rarely had to study for anything in school or ever had problem with the coursework. Finding a method of learning that works for an individual student is incredibly important.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.C'mon, Dash. Rarity looked great in that uniform and you know it.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Yeah, same here on the multitasking thing. Another reason RD is so impatient and cant focus. She's so used to multitasking, that it really IS hard for her to focus on just one thing. I have that same issue. She's not unable to pay attention, quite the opposite, her brain can actually work fast enough, that she neds two or three things going on to keep from getting bored.
And don't thin the flash cards while flying would work. The reason Twilight's plan worked, was RD didn't know she was learning. She wasn't TRYING to memorize things, just letting it happen. If she was focusing on the note cards, she'd be trying to hard. Plus it would kind of ruin the whole, look around and see everything deal.
@Mio: I see somebody's been biased since the first season. XP

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Twilight certainly seems a little more teleport-happy recently. Especially in the first half.
I'm surprised Twilight condones highlighting lines in books. I would have thought she'd object to as much as dog-earing the pages.
Also, Twi probably should have given the pop quiz first, then tried her regular methods of studying. I'm sure RD would have been a bit more receptive to normal studying after being shown how she actually doesn't know as much as she thinks. Then again, maybe not.
"Ah! Pinkie, you're real!"
"Loooook at uuusssss..." Way to be creepy, Twilight.
Whenever RD and Twilight are flying, notice how Twilight's wings beat about twice as fast as RD's. Nice touch.
"I, Princess Celestia, hereby banish you to the moon." "Noooooooooooo."
I realized after the fact that Rarity was Luna and went Ohhhhh, I see.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectLike Kegi said, I used to break out a book and read in class. And after a little while, nearly every teacher would actually tell me to do that rather then pay attention. because when I focused just on the class, I ended up getting bored and finish the teachers sentences, or answering question before they finished asking them.
"Loooook at uuusssss..." Way to be creepy, Twilight.
Yeah, that was an "I need an adult" moment.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Yeah, my only real complaint about the episode is that it presented Twilight's methodology as being a failure despite the fact that it only failed due to a lack of effort from RD. It was probably going for "RD has trouble learning from lectures and flash cards", but there's a difference between "I have difficulty learning this way" and "I'm not even going to pay attention." You can't blame the method for not working when you never even attempted to pay attention. I think it would've worked better if they had shown RD listening to a full lecture from Twilight and then having difficulty recalling anything because Twilight presented to much info in a very uninteresting way.
@Crow: I agree with all of that.
@Irish: I dunno, Twilight doesn't seem to care much for the books themselves as anything other than vehicles for knowledge. Or she just ordered a special copy for RD.

Reaction Image Repository@JT: I wouldn't say it was a failure, since it obviously works for Twilight. It's just that RD can't pay attention for any length of time.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIf anyone has a spell to remove highlighter from a book, it's probably Twilight...
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@dark: She thought they were mannequins, since everyone was in the dark.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Ed: Yeah, but there's a difference between "I have trouble focusing" and "I'm not going to listen, like, at all, and then complain that I didn't learn anything." It looked like RD wasn't even trying to pay attention.
@Dark: The boutique was dark in the shot, and Rainbow Dash assumed that the silhouettes of the dresses were on mannequins rather than real ponies.

Reaction Image Repositoryyeah it COULD have been handled better, but was alright as is.
@Dark. Rarity was leading her through a dark room, and RD thought that Pinkie was simply a ponikin.. or whatever a pony manikin is, until she moved and talked leading to "AH! You're real!"
Well the Latter was due to the former

And yeah, other than that bit at the beginning, I thought this episode was really good.
Yeah, but even so. She didn't even listen to a single sentence before distracting herself. I know kids with ADHD who aren't that bad.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, cramming has never helped me. Getting some rest beforehand and relaxing is far more helpful.

We got a lot of interesting history. All three tribes started a defense force after the banishment, and the Wonderbolts were named by Firefly after a celebration where everyone noticed how awesome they were.
