A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I dreamed I was in a big basketball game which we lost 0-1 due to the referee being stupid. I don't even play sports.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@storyyeller: I had talked in other places about how little the Eq G-verse had going for it. Even the plot for the first movie was pretty much entirely dependent on characters and objects that existed in the Fi M-verse initially.
I understand that it's a spinoff and an AU so that is partially expected, but with how little it did with it's own universe and characters you'll pardon me if I think you have nothing to offer.
I'm dreaming that I'm in the middle of a protracted debate about a distinctly average MLP spinoff that I don't really know how to contribute to.
...
I'm not dreaming, am I?

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Sereg: Here's the main problem: You keep insisting that Flash is a multidimensional character. However, as far as I can see, he has one personality trait, with no other traits to work with other than his Nice Guy-ness.
With the mane 6, every other character had multiple personality traits established right off the bat. Twilight is studious and intelligent, but also socially inept and dismissive. Rainbow Dash is skilled, but also a braggart. Pinkie Pie wants to make others happy, but is also random and weird. Fluttershy enjoys the company of animals, but also is cripplingly shy around other ponies. Applejack cares greatly about her family, but is also overbearing. Rarity wants to help others, but she's also very picky and persnickety. All of that was clearly established in the pilot.
Flash Sentry is a nice guy, but he's also...what? Stuff like "and he also plays guitar" and "and he also dated Sunset Shimmer at one point" don't fill that gap. Yes, we can try to think up stuff that fills the hole, but it's pure conjecture on the part of the viewer rather than him demonstrating anything. He's a nice guy and... how else do you describe his personality? He has no "also", and that's why I consider him one-dimensional.
As for this:
The problem is that no one really cares if Twi Dash is logical. They care that it's interesting. Twilight and Rainbow Dash are very different characters, which mean that they compliment each other's personalities, balancing out each other's issues. Pairing up two characters who are going to get along perfectly doesn't make for an interesting set of interactions.
The other thing is that let's face it, aside from Rarity's occasional crushes, the Mane 6's romantic preferences (in terms of personalities) are a total black box. There's no canon evidence as to what say, Twilight's "type" is. Yes, there's no real evidence in show that she and RD would be interested or compatible romantically, but there isn't any evidence that they wouldn't be, either. The fact of the matter is that if one puts enough time into developing it, any inter-mane 6 ship could theoretically work, because they all have a roughly equal amount of canon support: almost none.
Reaction Image Repository@Kyler: I'd much rather have that then the inane sockpuppetry and psuedo-rp that takes up a good chunk of the thread these days.
Well, to be fair to Flash we can tell by his actions that he is a pretty upstanding guy who is willing to stand up to the queen bitch on campus at the cost his relationship and possible social status.
I know it's kind of speculatey and doesn't really do much but stretch his "nice guy" aspect a little, but I don't think it's that big of a stretch.

@Story: I didn't mind that aspect of it so much if only because the most interesting parts of the movie were all the bits about Twilight trying to adjust to the human world. Yeah, the Trixie scene was gratuitous, but it was also entertaining, if only to see how Twilight might react to seeing Trixie in a different context. If the entire movie had just been Twilight trying to adjust physically and socially, it would've been an amazing movie.
@Kyler: I'm feeling fine. So far, Lum is the only one who seems to be getting overly invested in the argument. Although I will say I wish that Sereg would shorten his posts a little.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah I don't like watermelon much either.
And Sereg, what does any of it have to do with your 'ship' or shipping at all? We're just saying Flash, is simply a very very poorly handled character. You could cut every single scene he showed up in, except the one with the photos, and nothing would in anyway change in the story. And that one scene, how does anything in it change if it was any other character, what is it about Flash specifically that has any impact on the story?
But if you want to talk about shipping, Twidash still makes more sense, because at least there is a logical reason for Twi to even consider Dash like that. Versus, random gangly, hairless monkey, that she has no idea is 'cute' due to having zero idea about what human attractiveness is depended on, hell she should possibly not even be able to tell he's a he. Given the difference between human and pony sexual dimorphism and sexual characteristics. Let alone be feeling ANY attraction towards. Something she hasn't displayed at all, ever, before this, but suddenly shows up when it makes the least amount of sense.
not saying twi-dash makes a lot of sense, but more then Twilight and Flash. Going just with pony!Flash, she bumped into him twice, that's it, that's the extent of how they interacted, how is that in anyway a good place to claim a great relationship would happen between them with? It would make just as much sense for her to get in a relationship with that guard who pulled her away from the mob of ponies in the Season 4 premier.
i keep having dreams where i'm beating the tar out of somebody.
... i may have repressed aggression issues.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.![]()
To be fair, I'm pretty sure Sereg is referring to the pony version of him, and it's pretty clearly established that she does, however briefly, react to him with something resembling a crush. Of course, Pony!Flash has literally no characterization beyond existing.
I had a dream last night where there was this room, and anyone who went into it would die somehow. Not like, the room killed them, but they'd either get sick, or have something else bad happen. I stood at the door to it, then kind of freaked out and ran, but that was close enough because bad stuff started happening around me, accidents that might kill me.
Then, to get away from the curse or whatever that was following me, I tried to fake my death by driving my scooter off a pier into a lake or river or something, after loading it down with explosives and calling someone nearby to watch, jumping off at the last second before it blew up. Then I grabbed a rubber raft and slipped into the sewers, but the current was pulling me into some lose electrical wiring that would fry me. But then some army guy reached down and picked my out of the sewer, and I was back outside that room, and a bunch of military and civilians were trying to work out how it worked and save someone who was inside of it.
Yeah it was weird.

Which makes, just as little sense, but at least more then her getting a crush on some gangly hairless monkey. But the simple fact that, sans Rarity, none of the mane 6 have ever shown ANYTHING even close to a crush, or any type of non-Platonic or familial interest in anypony else, just makes it's sudden showing up here come completely the hell out of nowhere.

@JT: I like thinking about characterization as: This character is a [key trait], but he/she is also [other interesting traits]
So, Rarity is generous, but she's also creative, ambitious, occasionally self-centred (but aware of it), a perfectionist, a romantic at heart...

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@JT I'm sorry. I'm a veteran fighter at the You Tube comment fight club, and a lot of the habits keep resurfacing.
Also, your avatar is immensively cute.
Finally, April fools is over, which means AJ is back in action!
We haven't had much sockpuppetry in ages, unless you count Thunderlane's april fools joke.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayCan't we just bash watermelons instead?
Today in the Pony Thread: Gallagher.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!I remember seeing someone smash a watermeleon with his forehead at a talent show once.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayStory: I thought the Trixie scene served to drive the point home that Twilight is completely lost. Here's Trixie acting like an eccentric nut-ball and she still comes off as better-adjusted than Twilight. It's a small thing compared to the other fish-out-of-water stuff piling up on her, but I would still argue that it has some meaning, however small.
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiYeah I kind of didn't like the movie treated Pony Flash as the same character. i mean mirror counterparts seem to have a cloned personality, but technically they are separate characters.
I'd find it funny if Twi found she only crushes on human Flash, or gets even more awkward around him as a pegasus considering they never really met. So there's the awkwardness of dancing all over again with her progress being set back to nil.
Someone who you've never met inexplicably having a crush on you would be awkward.

I wish I had more weird dreams. I just get boring dreams about it being Thursday. Or going window shopping. Or being killed by a dog.
