A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Yeah, I watch Extra Credits on and off. All of their stuff is incredibly good, and a good chunk of it is applicable outside of the game industry too.
This one is actually a really good example of what I think about the writing in games. I think the "High Concept" part is especially important. The writing is a lot of things in a game, but one thing that it is not is the idea behind the game. A project lead who doesn't understand that is going to be afraid to bring on a writer because they're afraid the writer will take over the project. A writer who doesn't understand that is going to de-rail a project and run it into the ground.
I've had the Daytona USA theme stuck in my head all day.
Also, I'll be workin' tomorrow, so I won't see the episode live. Someone watch it for me.

I've wanted to make a magic system that's tied in to a kind of multi-axis peronality meter. Like, along the traditional-unorthodox axis, the first gives you spells that act the same way every time, the second has an element of randomness that are potentially more powerful, but also has a chance to fail or backfire.
Or, a direct personality gets flashy fireball or summon magic, while a subtle personality gets buffs/debuffs and utility spells. A bold person has access to more powerful offensive magic, while a cautious one gets better defensive options.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...@ Storyyeller: I think I should apologize for taking that pot-shot at your writing and explain better why I was offended in the first place. It sounded like you were accusing me of trying to piggy-back off the talent and experience of people who are better than I am in order to fulfill a selfish end. I got mad at that and lashed out. I'm proud that I didn't lash out harder, but still ashamed that I lashed out at all. Sorry.

I've made several games by myself. They're not necessarily the best games, but at least they exist. One common piece of writing advice is to just get down to it and start writing, and I think that applies here too.
And even if I were still making games, I'd have more ideas than I can ever do.
