A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

The ironic part is that Spyro's stuff wasn't retconned. The pendent stuck around for ages.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Rin: Yeah, that's a bit steep for only that many frames. If they wanted a few hours' worth of cutscenes, then yeah.
Reaction Image RepositoryIt probably wasn't a serious offer then.
Edit: It's possible he misunderstood the request.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI remember reading about one case where someone actually did OD on caffeiene pills. You're unlucky to ever OD from normal foods though.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlaySo, due to the nature of last nights discussion, I've decided to go ahead and do something I've been thinking of for a while. Get back to work on my Pony RPG. HES should be simpler, cheaper and no longer inconsistent now. I've also got basic rules for foals, crystal ponies, pyrrippi and alicorns up with promises for many more races, I may do more later. I'm a bit unsure how cervids would work mechanically. A race with powers that vary dramatically based on time of year is not normally a good idea in a PC race.
EDIT: Also, I'm perfectly happy to start GM another playtest, but I want to maximise convenience for as many people as possible.

You can OD from anything if you have too much. Some things just take more than others.
My suggestion: Have it so that the type of powers are different, but the overall level remains constant.

Reaction Image RepositoryWell I didn't take them as her hallucinating it all happening because of the drugs, but as her perception of what was going on getting massively distorted.
Yeah, that's basically what I was aiming for with the drugs line. Not that any of it wasn't real, just that Octavia was not in a position to process it all and it was really confusing.
Because honestly, reading over Spyro's part I had only a very, very vague idea of what actually happened.
Fighter in the winter, caster in the summer? Could work, especially if you have the logic that all the caster magic is internalized so they et some wild Charles Atlas Superpowers.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Sereg: Isn't adding new races more or less the last thing one should worry about? Out of all the things that one could find in a rulebook, player races are the ones most easily added through house ruling if the books are insufficient.
Not saying you shouldn't think about it at all, but I do hope you make sure everything else is in order first.
EDIT: Also, I'm in for the playtest.

Made a sinigicant edit.
That is what I'm leaning towards. The change in type of powers is already roughly what I was thinking. The flattening of powerlevel is probably going to have to be an unfortunate case of Gameplay and Story Segregation. But even then, it doesn't have to be much of one.

@Kayeka: Balancing races is still an important part of the system. In Dn D style games races get special abilities and stat bonuses that can wildly affect how they play certain classes. For example in pathfinder you get a gamut of skill points at first level based on your int. modifier. Playing an elf gave me a high enough modifier to take my initial skill points to about 40. At first level when yu're not really good at anything, a lot of skill points is really useful.
And there are other benefits to. In Dn D humans are kind of overpowered because they get a bonus feat and you can buff a single ability without any downsides. So you can give yourself a higher int to be a better caster, or you can be a human fighter with a boosted strength and get three feats at first level. That's enough feats to get a +2 on all combat rolls(more if you have good strength), plus a combat trick right out of the gate, which makes a human fighter a beast at first level.
Granted it's easier to balance races around classes and skills than vice versa, but it is still important to have that solid base in there.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Kayeka: Oh, agreed. There's a reason that that's all lower on the to-do list.
Though, as Kegi said, it's not exactly insignificant work. There are a lot of complaints about badly balanced races.
Though, we should perhaps focus on the basics before finding out if I've made crystal ponies unstoppable diplomancers or something. I mean, I haven't even properly done their magic.
So, Kayeka, I thought that you'd be interested. I know of at least one other who isn't here. Who else was/is interested?
EDIT:
I highly doubt it.

>Implying that D&D has anything resembling balance.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Ud: No, they're completely separate. Even if we wanted it to be a sequel, I doubt we'd manage.
@Sereg: I'm tentatively interested in helping, but bear in mind that 1. I have no tabletop experience I didn't get from either Order Of The Stick or Darths And Droids and 2. My schedule likely wouldn't be that reliable.
