A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

The doctor or the monster? The monster was like eight feet tall in the book, just he was significantly smarter and less obviously monstrous, with his skin and eyes being the creepiest part if I recall correctly. I also don't mind the monster being called Frankenstien, Adam Frankenstein as opposed to Victor Frankenstein (who wasn't a doctor but a college student in the original book).
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.@Scott: totally. usually, the Frankenstein monster is depicted as a dumb, incoherent brute. however, in the original book, not only is the monster fairly intelligent, but there's at least two chapters of his giving his backstory of what happened after he woke up (Victor was so freaked out that he tore out of the lab shortly after the monster started moving).

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.OH MY GLOB THE SWEETIE BELLE EPISODE WAS THE BEST THING EVER
Exaggeration aside, I do think For Whom the Sweetie Belle Tolls is the strongest episode of the season so far.
I wonder if the episode was in any way inspired by A Christmas Carol. Luna was like the Ghost of Sweetie Belles Past, Present, and Future.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...You know, The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde is one of those things that everyone knows the twist, but rarely anything else. Even the fact that it was a twist.
Which makes me wonder if taking the book, changing all the names and generally keeping the exact same plot while changing everything else would make the twist ending work.
the shock just happened to the forum?
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.@Irish Zombie: Our article on Jekyll & Hyde says Amicus Productions did exactly that. Their version was called I, Monster.
anyway, Kyler, i'm glad you enjoyed the episode.
They stole my idea! Before I even had it!
Reminds me of one time where I wondered aloud that someone should make a game show where people try and guess the name of a song by listening to the first few seconds, only to immediately been told it's been done.
Never heard of that, but I did just get done seeing Primer for the 3rd time. That sort of involves A Us.
Much like Dracula actually. Gotta love that Adaptation Displacement.
It is weird when people talk about an adpatation when you've only seen the original. Like people discussing all the crazy stuff in hte C Loudy With A Chance Of Meatballs movie.,
It's probably Public Domain. Knock yourself out.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Irish: i know that feeling. i had this great idea about how the 80s show Spider Man And His Amazing Friends could be rebooted, only to see it had been done. badly. -__-
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.In terms of Dracula, while most of these "use the movie version of Victorian novels" thing is lazy and removes depth from the character, I happen to think it's done the opposite with Dracula. The original Dracula was meant to have some kind of allure to him, but it was mostly magical. Prettying Dracula up makes the sexual metaphors more natural seeming and less Beauty Equals Goodness. However making sunlight turn vampires to dust was always a dumb idea and I greatly prefer the original novels "powerless in the sun" idea.
On the other hand I wish more adaptations used the original Frankenstein novel as inspiration. When the closest adaptation in years is otherwise a generic action movie you know how much it's strayed from it's source.

It's the song that plays at the very end of Cowboy Bebop, after Spike dies.
ey, guys! I'm back for now. And I've finished 65 percent of the Sonic episode. So, how are you guys?
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615q@Kyler: It's basically a Rarity episode shot mainly from Sweetie's perspective, and the good writing stays intact.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIt's more of a SB episode than a Rarity episode. But it's really dual focus, much like Sisterhooves Social.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play

I think Jekyll has the same problem Frankenstein has.
