@Scott: i recommend Samurai Champloo. it's from the same guy that made Cowboy Bebop, and there's a lot of action, laughs, and Steve Blum packed in to 26 episodes.

Do I need to watch them in order, or are they mostly standalone?

Well ideally you'd watch the (unaired) pilot first. But apart from a couple of continuity nodes, they're pretty standalone.

Any Netflix animes that could be intresting?Im currently watching My Bride Is a mermaid and im trying to find something when I finish that.

I don't know about Netflix, but as far as non Netflix animes go, Spice And Wolf is interesting. It manages to make Medieval economics seem exciting. Though I found the church/wolf subplots boring.

You say that as if medieval economics aren't intrinsically exciting.

I'll second the statements that while Firefly is quite good and certainly worth watching, it isn't the greatest show ever like some claim. It did have more potential than any other canceled series I can think of though, so that's depressing.

Well, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is really good. Though it's also pretty mainstream so you may have seen it?

Non-Netflix wise I can recommend the Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha series(es)... if you can get past the kind of uncomfortable habit of showing 10-year-old girls transforming in their underwear. Despite how that sounds there's nothing even vaguely sexual about the series.

I can also recommend Kill La Kill and Free! (both of which are pretty sexual in nature but are about older teens and aren't explicit in any way so that's alright). the Persona4 anime was also good, but I recommend playing the game instead.

Movie-wise, Tokyo Godfathers is great(But vaguely christmas themed, so you may want to wait until it's seasonal? It's also pretty heavy in a lot of ways).

Ah, Cromartie, that series is just surreally hilarious.

Oh, I'll also recommend Soul Eater. A pretty solid action series... though it kinda takes a right-turn near the end because it overshot the manga and had to make up an ending pretty abruptly.

I'll second Samurai Champloo. I actually think I enjoyed it more than Cowboy Bebop, but that's probably just personal preference talking.

FMA Brotherhood is good, but the pacing is a bit off at the beginning. The manga is really good though. Same for Soul Eater (haven't seen the anime, but the manga is pretty solid, even if Black Star is annoying).

Seconding Soul Eater and Samurai Champloo (I didn't even finish it, but the episodes I saw were great).

I wonder if it would help if you watched part of the first anime before starting on Brotherhood. Only up to the point where it diverges from the manga.

@Kyler: Maybe. I remember trying to start on FMA Brotherhood and giving it up once because I had seen a bit of the beginning of the first anime, and the pacing of the first few episodes was just too breakneck for me. I think Brotherhood settled in pretty well around episode 12 or so... I don't recall precisely when. Fairly shortly after the discovery of the fifth Laboratory.

Also everyone I've seen has praised Attack On Titan. Sadly I haven't had much luck watching it.

You could try reading scans of the manga online.

I think we were talking about Pokemon yesterday, so if anyone's interested, I'm doing a Nuzlocke run of Fire Red. Documentation in the appropriate thread.

Do you think it'd be possible/worthwhile to record my Nuzlocke run if I do one? I can't think of any good way to record a gameboy, and doing it in an emulator isn't the same.

I just watched the "Simon and Marcy" episode of "Adventure Time", which is really good. Which is nice, because the previous episode I watched was kinda dumb.

Why wouldn't it be the same in an emulator? I mean, besides the obvious way in which it wouldn't be the same.
