Just go into the kitchen of a fast food place and you'll find plenty.

I've seen them in the zoo. That's it.

I worked at a zoo for 8 years and the damn things were all over the break room. You turn on the light and watch them scurry out of sight. Some of them got up into the lights and died up there.

at my last house, the things were frickin' everywhere. and i'm not talking the small ones, i mean big-as-all-get-out German cockroaches. we found at least two a week for the last two years we lived there, either alive or dead. living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom—everywhere. -shivers again-

@CDRW: if there's a well-stocked library in your area, you could try looking for how-to books there. that's how i started.

Just to change topic before this turns into the "everybody jump on Robotnik" thread, my Nuzlocke is going quite well.

You know, I wonder if I could do an entire Nuzlocke run without saving. How long does the game take to finish?

I remember a couple years ago when I attempted a speed run of Blue, I got 5/8 badges in 2 hours, but that was with a lot of save scumming to beat the game as fast as possible (and of course people have beaten the entire game in less than 2 hours).

Still I think it should be possible to catch a Mew while technically remaining within the rules of the Nuzlocke, and of course Mew makes everything way easier.

[up][up] Actually, yeah, you're right about that. I've got a how-to book for figure drawing, I should probably go back to that and study it more thoroughly.

Wryte- I've been at work today, so I haven't made much progress in a while. I'm currently training my new Drowzee and Diglett before I take on the S.S. Anne.

Maud is honest. She is not the type to pretend that she likes something when she doesn't. That can be refreshing. With a person like that, you can just ask and find out exactly where you stand with them.

I wish everyone was like that.

I'm being attacked by flies. I hate flies.

Flies. Why did it have to be flies?

I've seen tons of cockroaches. It's probably just a matter of where you live.

Yeah, the idea I got from Maud is that she was doing her best to involve herself in what the Mane 6 were doing, but she also too honest to pretend that she's enjoying them if she isn't. And on the flip side, the mane cast tried to do something she enjoyed. I think it's pretty obvious that it's a case of "there's nothing wrong with either party, but they just don't have enough in common to get along easily". That said, I bet if they hung around enough they'd eventually learn to read her a bit better, but it's not practical or necessary.

So I took a bus service to take me to my psych's appointment, but it turns out they used the wrong address, and I was left wandering around for two hours before giving up and calling my brother to drive me home. So have to reschedule.

on something of a bit less downish, I found this kinda cool cover of Rainbow Factory.

Re: Maud and activities

I think the problem (with the situation, not with the writing) is that the way Pinkie described Maud earlier, the rest of them ended up building a different mental image of Maud than what she actually was.

Also, I think all of them put too much focus on doing what they enjoyed doing and hoping Maud would enjoy it too, and perhaps not enough on getting to know Maud and whether she was having a good time as well.

@JT: I'm still not convinced that Maud wasn't enjoying herself. Given Pinkie's later assurance that an unenthusiastic "sure" was the most excited she's ever seen Maud, it's entirely possible that she was having the time of her life hanging out with the cast, and that they misinterpreted her natural stoicism as disinterest. I sort of went over this a bit already, but Maud did engage in all the activities the mane six tried to do with her, she was just getting something different out of it than they were expecting. For example enjoying the local geology instead of the local wildlife. Doesn't mean she wasn't having fun, it was just not what Fluttershy expected.

You know, Maud would be the perfect candidate for a When She Smiles moment. Too bad it's in-universe examples only.

Yeah, once he rest got used to her, they'd be better able to tell what she was feeling. And, as pointed out, she's to honest to fake liking something. So, given this, yeah she was trying to get along with the other Mane 6. And might even have enjoyed some of it.

So I found this short but really awesome video. If only Twilight's transformation into an alicorn had been like that, it would have been more epic.[down]

@Crow: It's probably somewhere in the middle. I don't think it was "having the time of your life" level enjoyment, or she wouldn't have left town so readily. I don't think she was miserable either, but she clearly didn't think it was awesome either.
