A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I think that her EP magic is just channeled into rock baesd superpowers.

A rock.
That is my destiny.
And that is what you are.
Rock.

I finally got to see it, and I really liked it! As Japanese Teeth said, it's like A Friend In Deed done the way I wished it had gone, just like how Rarity Takes Manehatten takes aspects of Sweet and Elite and does them in a way that I like a lot better (ex. Rarity being kind to the bellhop instead of him being used as a Butt-Monkey). I loved the part where Rainbow Dash says something like "And we're cool with that" when Maud says that she doesn't express her emotions the way Pinkie does...finally this show has a message about NOT trying to change introverts to be more outgoing! smile

As the YMMV page for the episode mentions, I do think Maud has some classic Asperger's traits, like her unusually monotone voice and deadpan behavior, and especially her fixation on rocks and her blunt literalness (which is an Aspie trait I definitely have). I don't know if the writers were doing that on purpose or not but it was very nice to me as an Aspie to see a character with those obvious traits be accepted as she is.

Another thing I noticed on a meta level is that we have three episodes about sisterly bonds in a row, if one is going by the broadcast order. Last week was about Applejack and Apple Bloom, this one was about Pinkie and Maud, and next week's story is about Sweetie Belle and Rarity. If that was intentional, that could be one reason why episode 19 is out of order. Another reason could be that Trade Ya is sent at Rainbow Falls which is where the game tryouts were at so it could be connected to the Equestria Games, which I'm going to predict is this season's finale.

[up]I find it odd that people say that it's AFID done right. From what I see it still suffers from the same need to have everyone be friends at the end, even if it doesn't make sense.

Yeah, "we're friends because we all love pinkie" is kinda dumb.

Alright, today has gone from bad to worse for me. The power is out. And, for some reason, our carbon monoxide detector is acting up. It'll beep once, then stop for a minute, then beep once again. The "danger" light isn't on. And for a while it actually stopped. Then it started again. My sister made me herd all the animals into my car, then mom ordered me to take them back inside.

Fuck all of this. I have work to go do.

@ Ike: Please make sure there isn't actually carbon monoxide buildup. Call a professional to have it checked out. It should be free, and it's better to be safe than sorry. They don't call carbon monoxide the silent killer for nothing. You can't see it, and you can't smell it.

@Mio: I guess it's because I hated that A Friend In Deed gave lip service to "respect other people's need for privacy" at the end but in the actual story, it felt to me that Pinkie was rewarded for her pestering Cranky into being her friend. Whereas in this one the Mane 6 actually apologized to Maud for being pushy in a way that shows they actually understood what they had been doing wrong (as in, they didn't chase her all over with apologies plus their attempts to befriend her were much less obnoxious than Pinkie's behavior towards Cranky) and the idea wasn't "we all like Pinkie so that makes us friends" but more "we all care about Pinkie so we have something in common we can bond over."

I thought that, ultimately, "A Friend In Deed" eventually boiled down to "Pikie, this isn't about you. It's about what makes him happy."

Well now, you know what this means right? Battle to the death between Maude and Coco.

The death being the audiences, which one can kill the people watching with adorableness first, winner is named ultimate new pony of season 4

@Rainbow: Fair enough. I guess I just didn't feel the same way.

@Enlong: Maybe. It's hard to tell if she learned anything by the end.

which one can kill the people watching with adorableness first
There are many words I would use to describe Maud, but adorable isn't one that jumps out at first. And on the same note, adorable is basically Coco's whole thing. Doesn't seem like that'd be a fair contest.

I thought that, ultimately, "A Friend In Deed" eventually boiled down to "Pikie, this isn't about you. It's about what makes him happy."

Which would have been nice if they had actually demonstrated that through the story instead of having Pinkie's actions turn out well despite everything.

I'm about a third of the way through this trainwreck of a fanfic. It's surprisingly coherent so far, given what it is.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...
