A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

@Orion: Basic thrust: It's a bible book that says: "Well, everything's kind of pointless, really."
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThat's the theme everyone is familiar with. I admit I haven't really read it that much.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Crow: To be fair, the whole "There is nothing new under the sun" is a pretty well-known quote.
@Kyler: Yeah, Ecclessiastes can be incredibly depressing. The general summary of the book is "the king tries out a bunch of different philosophies and lifestyles and finds that most of them aren't fulfilling." The only thing that keeps it out of being pure Nihilism is the theological portion of it. It ends up being less nihilistic and more just anti-hedonism. It starts with the "Everything is Meaningless" bit before moving on to figure out exactly how one can find meaning. Obviously, it's from a Yahwehistic Hebrew theological perspective, but the general theme of "how on earth am I supposed to make my life meaningful?" is a pretty universal theme.
In other news, I watched some more Adventure Time, specifically "All the Little People". It's an... interesting episode. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It feels like it's saying something about shipping, but I'm not sure exactly what.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah the quote is well known, but I'm not sure if I ever knew the source before. Anyway, I much prefer the gospel of Chad, who tried out many philosophies and lifestyles and finds the best one is getting drunk and playing video games.
All the Little People is the one that's basically poking fun at shipping, right? Aaand edit ninja'd.

Yeah, Finn gets a bunch of mini-versions of the characters, and promptly starts pairing them up at random and obsessing over them. I think it's a commentary on how fans tend to pair up characters randomly with no regard for characterization and then get overly invested in those pairings. Sort of like how with ponies people will pair up two characters with no romantic inclination, and then go overboard in trying to sell it to others.
Reaction Image Repository"Nothing new under the sun" is one of those stock phrases that everyone has heard of, evne if they don't know the source.")
Most of them come from either hte bible or Shakespeare.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAlso known as procrastination. Not that I'm one to talk there.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI don't view it as procrastination. I mostly wanna go over AU stories that have come before and the common tropes of the genre for ideas.
And, I'm not sure whether to make the story a medieval fantasy or superhero setting. Could go either way.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I know, it's just the easiest form of procrastination, shorto f actually procrastinating.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayEek, I haven't drawn anything pony-related since that Cherry Jubilee pin-up last week! Quick, someone give me a sketch prompt.

Morning pony-folk, I seem to have developed the plague over night, so I'm staying home today rather than risking infecting the rest of the office. I guess that's what I get for watch Vincent Price in The Last Man on Earth. At least I know I'm not in danger of becoming a vampire since I've yet to go blind.

Post of the Day #680
I had this weird dream that I'd gotten into Stanford and was just about to start classes there. Woke up thoroughly disappointed that it wasn't actually a thing.
And why Stanford, of all places? I'm not exactly in the neighborhood.
But enough about me, here's Big Macintosh talking for twelve seconds.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

JT- You make a good point. I don't know how well I could do on the execution, but I'm certainly going to do my best.
As for the differences between the worlds- in the darker worlds, the main characters are definitely villains. They lie, cheat, steal and kill to get what they want, and used to do so just to get by because of how harsh the world is. The alternate world is much more idealistic. The alternate versions of the protagonists may still be rather violent, but fighting is their job, and they're otherwise good people.
