A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I thought of something notable about Rarity in relation to the others in the Mane 6. Rarity is the only one who doesn't have any known connections to towns/cities outside of Ponyville. Twilight is obviously from Canterlot and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are from Cloudsdale. Applejack was probably born in Ponyville, but she has relatives in various places and spent a significant amount of time with her aunt and uncle in Manehatten. We don't know where the rock farm is (although we might learn more about it in the next episode) but presumably Pinkie isn't originally from Ponyville either.
And that leaves Rarity. Her parents are never stated to have been from any other place, although judging by their accents they could have easily been born elsewhere in Equestria before moving to Ponyville. Given that she was trying to hide her small-town background in Sweet and Elite, it's telling that she didn't mention having lived any place other than Ponyville.
Which really highlights a way in which she and Twilight are opposites. Rarity is a social climber from a working-class background who admires high society and wants to be a part of it, but did not grow up in that environment. Twilight, on the other hoof, is from Canterlot and is established to be the princess's personal student, which would give her a high ranking even if her parents aren't necessarily high-class. Plus there's the whole thing where she was babysat by Princess Cadance who her brother later married. Twilight herself was never interested in socializing with the nobles because she was too busy studying magic when she was young and probably wasn't generally interested in showing off in the way that someone who is flaunting their wealth would do (she probably would be more likely to show off her magic skills rather than expensive goods if she were to be a show-off at ALL). Which really shows their friendship and how generous Rarity is that she's rarely shown actually being jealous of Twilight's status and background (like how she was towards Fluttershy in Green Isn't Your Color). No thoughts of "You have all these things I want and you don't seem to appreciate them!" either, although Rarity may also admire Twilight's modesty as being properly ladylike as well.

Nes- I don't think Sunset is gonna be happy to hear that...
Also, I'm gonna have to sit the cage match out. I'm a pacifist.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@NES Ike can have Luna...mostly because I wouldn't be able to speak because I would be blushing so hard...also, you and Flutters would be great together!
@Ike I'm a lover not a fighter. If Luna were to appear on here, I would run away, blushing so hard, I'd collapse.

https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qWhat, did Flash Sentry come back into the picture?
Speaking of whom, did it ever occur to anyone else that his name is an oxymoron? The entire point of being a sentry is that you're standing guard over an area for a prolonged period of time. You can't do it in a flash, or you've completely missed the point. And if he's flashing ponies while standing sentry, then we've got a whole other problem to deal with. Geez, he just gets worse and worse the more I think about him.

@Rainbow: I never thought about it like that. That's actually really interesting; she's the only one who seems to be completely centered there, yet she has the most desire to go somewhere else. Also, I finished up the latest chapter of my fanfic, so I'll PM you the link to it.
Also, while all of you are fighting over Luna, I'll just be over here with Celestia. Don't get me wrong, Luna's great, but I think Celestia and I would get along better.
Maybe he reacts really quickly to any danger he notices or something.

Reaction Image RepositoryI'd say AJ is more centered in Ponyville, even if she does have relatives. She certianly leaves Ponyville less often.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Story: That's true, but AJ has been repeatedly shown visiting relatives elsewhere, and the business doubtlessly results in her leaving town. The point is that out of the cast, Rarity is the only one who doesn't have any real connections outside of Ponyville that she didn't find for herself. Rarity might spend more time out of town than AJ does now, but in regard to her life growing up, as far as we know AJ spent more time elsewhere than Rarity did. Also, it's pretty much confirmed that AJ and Rarity are the only two characters native to Ponyville.
And now I must get to sleep.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/You know what's annoying? Things like this-
My computer tells me "[program] is not responding."
I hit the "close program" button to force it to close.
My computer tells me "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem."
I don't want it to look for a solution. I want it to close the program. That's why I clicked the close program button.
And it does this every single time.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Well I just managed to solve a really nast bug in the program I've been working on all day. Shame this was supposed to be a quick task before I get started on the project that's actually important and due in four days.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI always keep my task manager up at all times so I can force quit anything at a moments notice.
also, this is the most adorable thing ever!

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider! The problem is that sometimes resource hog programs are hard to kill even with task manager because they're slowing down the computer so much.

@Marcen: No sweat, though you got competition.
To answer my own question, I'd have to stick it out with Fluttershy. Having to handle all the critters on her own must be a real chore, and I'm sure she could use some assistance. -squeaky smile-
