A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I need to play all the earthbound series games. It's a trilogy, right?

Yeah, but you can safely skip the original. It's way more difficult than the others, and Earthbound is in a lot of ways as much a remake as it is a sequel anyway.

Also, palindrome page.
And now it is not, and we won't get another one for roughly a hundred pages.

I think I may just skip this next one. Applejack is my least favorite of the main 6 and there's a 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance she'll be the only main character to appear in this episode.

(The previews look neat, but they always choose the most interesting parts to showcase...)

@Mike: There are random encounters, as opposed to the enemies being avoidable on the over world, and (I believe) this was before they introduced the scrolling health feature.

@Ike: I'mma just copy/paste from an article about the similarities. I think plotwise the game is technically a sequel, but it's also an excuse to redo everything from the first game but better.

• Story about a kid living in America (or some fictional facsimile) who embarks on an adventure to unravel the sinister designs of a distant alien menace.

• Player characters: the young hero in a red baseball cap. The blonde and dainty magic girl. The spectacled dork specializing in high-tech weaponry. The weird afterthought fourth character.

• The hero's family: the nurturing mother who serves the hero his favorite food and acts as a walking recovery point. The unseen Dad who saves the game and communicates with the hero strictly by telephone. The Fat Chocobo little sister.

• Plot tokens! The hero must search the world for the eight "pieces" of a special song related to a bizarre dream world called Magicant.

• The endboss: a malignant entity called Giygas whose influence causes animals to become aggressive, people to act strangely, and weird stuff to happen all around. During his climactic battle with the heroes, he fights using incomprehensible psychic attacks.

• A town under siege by zombies. A town plagued by hoodlums. An underground maze full of monkeys. Live musical performances in a big city. Police blockades. Ineffective and self-absorbed mayors. Knife-brandishing teen gang leaders. Alien abductions. Fourth wall-breaking fathers.

How did the crab thing start anyway? Is it one of those things where a popular fanart gets posted on EQD and starts a meme?
slowpony.jpg

To my knowledge, "Rarity fighting a giant crab" became a meme the same way "Trixie eating pinecones" did: one person started asking every artist they knew to draw the subject.

Huh. Didn't think a meme could be forced into existence that way.

Eh, at least Crab Fighter Rarity sounds cool.

Rarity fighting a crab started that way, and the idea was amusing enough that it ballooned.

Also I'm really tempted to fire up an emulator and replay the original Paper Mario.

I got a chance to play through the first chapter of TYD and it is awesome. Sadly the owners left before I could get farther.

Also, for everyone who hasn't seen Let It Go yet.

I've never played the Paper Mario games. I was in my cliched teenager phase, complete with obligatory cute-hating, when the first one came out, and never developed any interest after that.

That was also known as my Embarrassing Invader Zim phase. XD

I gotta ask, are there any good Gamecube emulators for PC?

Dunno. N64 and GBA are the most recent devices I've emulated.

What's embarrassing about liking Invader Zim?

Not sure about Gamecube emulators, never really tried to emulate a system more powerful than the PS 1.

[up][up] Nothing, Invader Zim is a great show. I just call it that because that's the thing I most associate with my awkward middle school/ early high school years.

There is one for the Gamecube called Dolphin, but I've no idea how good it is.

Hey, speaking of Paper Mario.

My favorite part is how the paper stuff is actually used for gameplay, such as turning to squeeze through bars.

Dolphin's hit or miss depending on your computer. It can work fine for some games, but choke on others.

I'd probably recommend you snatch up a Wii and play Gamecube games that way if you don't own one.
