Hey, so question about the latest episode: was Seabreeze a boy or a girl?

She's a boy.

Seabreeze was consistently referred to as male in the episode. What might be throwing you is that for some reason, a lot of people keep using female pronouns when describing him, even in conversations acknowledging his gender. Seriously, I've seen so many comments along the lines of "we know she's a guy because Fluttershy kept calling her 'him'." It's really bizarre.

[up][up]Case in point.

His voice was pretty easily heard as male to me, so I had no problem.

That's because Seabreeze seemed like a female.

The character design seemed really feminine to me.

Yeah, all of the breezies look really feminine, and combined with that you could easily think that he was just a girl with a slightly masculine voice.

Well yeah, but you don't refer to someone because they seem female, you do so because they are female. I can understand getting his gender wrong, because come on, I just find it weird that someone will confirm his gender and refer to him as the wrong one in the same sentence.

Seabreeze's voice always read as more generally Scandinavian than gaelic to me.

Then again, Scandinavian and Gaelic countries have historically been very close(There's even some talk of Scotland becoming noted as a Scandinavian(or Nordic? I don't recall) country upon gaining its independence) so it makes sense they'd sound kind of similar, and fairies are much more common in Gaelic folklore than Scandinavian, so...

I do it mostly as a joke now.

I'm thinking Gaelic is what they're shooting for, they make more sense as sidhe analogues with the whole living in an alternate dimension and finding it difficult to live in the ponies' world. Though that's more of the christian interpretation with the size and cuteness. still, they're a better fit than say, svartalves.

The Breezies kinda reminded me of Cornish pixies.

I kinda feel like they deliberately just made his accent weird without trying to be any particular language. Makes the breezies seem more foreign and mysterious.

Well, does Seabreeze's spouse look more or less like a female specimen than Seabreeze does? That may point us in the right direction.

As for time travel, it's fine if it's well-defined and consistent.

I also think Gaelic was what they were shooting for, because I can't help but think that they (or just Seabreeze) were partly inspired by the Wee Free Men.

I know basically nothing about accents, so all I know about Seabreeze's is that it was fantastic.

@Enlong: We don't need to be pointed in any directions though. Fluttershy referred to him as male several times. No one at any point referred to him as a female.

I'm bad at recognising accents too. I'll jsut call it a breezy accent.

Man, the Smash Bros thread can be really unnerving sometimes. I was reading through it to catch up and for some reason, they spent like 2 pages talking about Pokemon porn... I mean seriously, what the fuck...

So, anyone got some cute stuff to bleach my brain?
