A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

As you said, it's not that common. Also, self-fulfilling prophecy. Also, name changes.
Oh, I also had Scarlet Scroll, but that was just a little easter egg reference to Beauracracy Is Magic.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Danny: Well, personally, I first try for a Punny Name. (Helped a friend of mine name her OC due to that.) If not, then I try to think of a plan B. (For example, an archer pony who detests insects could be named Arrow Soul, or a puppeteer pony could be named Manny Quin.)
@Starscream: Me? Cryptic? Oh, nonsense!
Let's see... I've got:
- Carbon Tracks: An ecologist/behavioral biologist. His name references the concept of "carbon footprints," and tracking.
- Wild Shot: A hot-blooded and excitable wildlife photographer.
- Songbreeze: A tone-deaf botanist. Score one for parents picking the wrong name for their kid.
- Professor Stachensturtz: A megalomaniac university professor of natural sciences. Known for his (literally) big head, including his gigantic mustache.
- Shade Sharp: A pony with some changeling heritage whose special talent is impersonation, which he uses for (among other things) academic espionage. Name partially inspired by Spades Slick of Homestuck infamy.
- Lens Lustre: A cool and laid-back photographer. Very fashionable.
- Zeza: A zebra botanist. A bit on the quiet side.
- Doctor Petalia: An accomplished and highly respected doctor of natural sciences. Stache's ex-wife.

@CDRW: Impressive. I had a beard like that in college. Recently I tend to trim it, though. It gets itchy if I let it grow too long.
Reaction Image RepositoryMine actually seems to get less itchy the longer it gets, but I do need to start trimming it. I look a little like a hobo right now.
And in order to keep on topic while still talking about beards...
I keep my beard because otherwise I look really young(And it's too much of a bother to shave frequently) but I do keep it trimmed reasonably short. Otherwise my mustache gets all in my food and mouth, which is annoying.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.

I pick one or two words that sound good together and sound vaguely descriptive. I try to avoid pedestrian puns like Desk Job because those don't feel realistic to me. Then again, I've only named 3 OCs so far (Carbon Clover, Daily Sun, and Longshot).
