A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Oh my gosh guys I got another call about an interview today!
That's more than I usually have in a month!
And this one is for a local job!
Oh my goodness this has been a good day.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Ike: That's great.
@Story: The main issue is this; in pro-level chess, the game is pretty much entirely Metagame. You play everything based of knowledge of how the game is played by other pros. When playing against an amateur none of that works. In pro-level chess, it's all one big game of I Know You Know I Know; you choose your moves based on what strategy the other guy is using, and his strategy is based on what you were doing. Against an amateur, you can't do that because there's no strategy to react to and no way of predicting his moves. Granted, a pro will still beat an amateur 99 times out of a 100, but it's certainly possible for the lack of experience to work against a pro's expectations. The short version is that professional chess players focus on a metagame that isn't used at all by people who don't play at that level.

Reaction Image RepositoryBasically. It's less studying the game itself and more looking at the strategies and moves used in previous games.
Reaction Image RepositoryIt's like this: high-level chess doesn't operate on individual move vs move, but rather on strategies and combinations of moves. Think combos in a fighting game. So a pro's task is to recognize which strategy and combinations of the 500 billion they got memorized their opponent is going for.
A newbie has none of that in mind, a newbie goes move by move with little reason, and that will initially turn the pro's strategy detector against them. But the sooner the pro realises they're going against a newbie and employs anti-newbie strategies, the sooner they'll win.

That's a good analogy. An amateur player can get in a few lucky shots due to metaphorical button mashing, and it's basically a question of how quickly the high-level player can figure out what's going on and react quickly enough.

Reaction Image RepositoryHow is - that movie was like, 20 years ago. Can that really be called a sequel at this point? Timing-wise, seems more like a reboot... but that is kinda cool, actually.
Probably because it has such a weird concept. And nostalgia I don't doubt. I remember from my wee-hood, and I remember quite liking it. Dunno if I would now, but...

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.A Space Jam sequel? There's no way that this isn't going to be the most self-aware thing ever created. It's the only way this could possibly work. Also, the original Space Jam is basically a masterwork of Narm Charm. It's so hokey and painfully 90's, but it still manages to be great somehow.

Oh, we're definitevly at the finale?
