A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Getting to th interview on short notice will be hard enough. Mom kinda wants me to cancel. If I GET the job, I do t know what I'll do. But I do want the job. Or any job.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Derpy employs Confusion Fu, doing moves all over the place and throwing the other player completely off their professional mindset
... fuck.
I can't access the original job listing, they took it down. So now I can't check if it's for a specific sub-agency like the last one was. fuck.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/The thing though is that that doesn't actually work in chess. You know a saying about a novice being the most dangerous because they make unexpected moves? No, just no. A novice is going to lose hard, every single time if the opponent is remotely competent.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlaySorry what? If you're talking about the Confusion Fu page, the real life examples explicitly say that it doesn't work any more. And even in the 19th century, it's not like it would let a complete newbie win, you still have to be pretty good at chess theory.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayNo. It says it's not as often as pop culture has you believe. That's not the same at all as "it doesn't work anymore."
Edit: You're arguing two different things at the same time. That Confusion Fu doesn't work in chess, and that newbies can't use it to win. I'm arguing against the first, not the second.

Let me quote the rest of that paragraph.
Seems pretty clear to me. You're not going to beat a grandmaster no matter what you do.
I'll agree that if you spend a lot of time practicing it, it's theoretically possible for it to give you a slight edge. But that's practically unfalsifiable and it's certainly not what's meant in the popular conception. For some reason, people like to think of Chess as Poker for smart people, but it isn't. It's a game of perfect information, and an incredibly well studied one at that.
Well it started with discussion of ponies, so I think we should get some credit.

One night in Ponyville and the world's your oyster. Not much between despair and ecstasy.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...
