A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

@Story More like Ang "Bore the living fuck outta us" Lee. Seriously he makes a movie about THE HULK but the Hulk doesn't even show up for HALF OF THE MOVIE!

The next Spider-Man movie also is in danger of too much stuff. Rhino, Electro, Green Goblin. Three villains structure hasn't been done well in Spider-Man.

When has villain overload ever worked out for a superhero movie? You'd think the studios would catch on.

@Crowfall

In Batman Returns it did. At least in my opinion.

Because, I guess, it's still focused and the villains more or less are close and tied together.

In general, I feel like too many movies tend to cram too much in. I mean, I get that everybody thinks the idea of Batman and Superman teaming up is awesome, but it rarely turns out well in a non-serial medium because there's just no time to address everything.

I just saw the latest Spider Man movie, actually.

Is there one after the Amazing Spiderman?

Three villains structure hasn't been done well in Spider-Man.

You're referring to Spider Man 3, I assume? I'm glad I skipped that one.

I liked the Ang Lee Hulk.

I don't think it was good, and I liked the second much better, but I thought it was a noble failure if nothing else.

[up]no, I meant The Amazing Spiderman. I never got around to seeing it when it came out.

Hey. Just got back from the skills assessment, and getting an application in at walmart. Fuck, the computers there are terrible. It hurt my hands to use it after a while. Now I'm gonna see if I can finish the questionnaire at home.

@JT: Especially when this movie will also have the responsibility of introducing this iteration of Batman to the audience.

@Ike: Hopefully it'll work out for you.

@Crow: Yeah, that's pretty much a lost cause given how popular the Dark Knight Trilogy was. Good luck following up on that.

Speaking of which I should really get around to finishing The Dark Knight Returns.

That's a problem with adaptations like that. it becomes a story seeming like it's belonging to an existing continuity, rather than making a verse for itself. Those types of movies use a lot of assumed knowledge on the character by the audience and rarely build a coherent origin.

[up]I'm talking about the movies in general. Whatever you think of Christian Bale's performance, the movies were staggeringly popular and well-received, and attempting to follow it up is going to be hard.

@Dark: That's one of the reasons I haven't bothered getting around to watching The Avengers yet (I know, I know, heresy, get off the internet, go watch it NAOW); I feel like I'd have to go back and watch Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Incredible Hulk in order to really appreciate it, and I'm honestly not that interested in all of those.

Except for the third.

Which is odd, because I didn't find it much different from the second. Perhaps that just means I didn't find the second all that great, I dunno.

[up]It is definitely the weakest of the three, although I don't think it's as awful as a lot of people make it out to be. But anyway, the point is that the whole set is going to cause a big Tough Act to Follow moment for any subsequent films.

I didn't watch any of those movies and I still appreciated it. AFAIK, the only references to previous movies are that the mcguffin and some of the minor characters made cameos in previous movies.

@JT. I don't really have an interest in superheroes, given most media they're in are inaccessible to me, so I'm indifferent. I mean I've some DCU, which was alright I guess.

Yeah, you really don't need to see the other movies to enjoy Avengers. Though I would recommend Thor and Captain America anyway. Hulk you can probably afford to skip.

Have you read Worm?

Though I would recommend Thor and Captain America anyway.

I saw the beginning of Thor and it didn't really seem that interesting.

I'm busy with part five of Worm. I'm enjoying it.

I haven't seen The Avengers.

I'm not hugely into superhero stuff. I never followed comics. But I do like a lot of it anyway and I have grown to like it more over time.
