A movie combining plot strings from four or five completely independent movies? If any one of the movies leading into the Avengers had tanked, the project as a whole could have suffered pretty significantly

I don't think the plot continutiy was that major. I didn't see Thor, The Hulk, or Captain America and I still enjoyed The Avengers.

Fluttershy dancing might just be the most adorable thing in the world.

@marston: I agree completely, DC's attempts just look sad in comparison, like a kid desperately trying to imitate the cool kids and failing horribly. They really need to invest the time to develop their franchises, but they want to be making Avengers money so they're just trying to shove everything out the gate at once.

Story: I think it's more that the poor publicity of any of those movies failing could have dragged down sales on The Avengers. At least I know if I saw one of the individual movies and thought it was really bad, I'd be pretty wary of The Avengers.

@Crowfall: The worst part is that there is potential with DC's characters, and IMO Man Of Steel would have been an excellent way of starting this whole series, but now that their shoving in all the characters into the sequel, it's just going to be a huge mess.

[down]Yes, it's been confirmed, and she's going to be played by one of those talentless "Hot girls" from those The Fast and the furious movies.

@Marston Indeed. Is it true that Wonder Woman is gonna be in Man of Steel 2?

They're not even doing seperate introductory movies? At least Iron Man 2 only introduced the characters that noone cares about.

Nope, no separate movies. I guess after Green Lantern bombed, they can't trust those anymore.

The worst part is that there is potential with DC's characters, and IMO Man of Steel would have been an excellent way of starting this whole series, but now that their shoving in all the characters into the sequel, it's just going to be a huge mess.

Especially considering that if they really wanted to copy the MCU's success, they'd give each main hero their own movie before going for the crossover. A movie with only Superman and Lex Luthor as the hero and villain has enough potential on its own, but now that they're throwing Batman and Wonder Woman into the mix, I feel like the final product will be a bit crowded. That, and I get the feeling Batman's going to overshadow Superman in his own movie.

Also, looking at what details there are about this upcoming movie, apparently Lex is being played by the guy who played Zuckerberg in The Social Network. While I'm sure he's a good actor, I'm not terribly convinced he can be a convincing Lex Luthor. Well, unless they age down Lex considerably, but that would lead to other problems.

Just how many Superman reboots are we getting anyway? Superman Returns wasn't that long ago.

[up][up]Yeah, but that had a completely different feel and setting.

And yeah, it feels like this movie is going to have way too much stuff in it.

@Irish: I think he could actually pull it off. He's got the 'amoral, selfish businessperson' thing down from Social Network, and he's actually got the hair - Luthor losing his hair, which he was very proud of, is generally considered an important part of his backstory(In more petty incarnations, the whole REASON he hates Supes so much).

... Or he would, anyways, if he didn't have such a weak voice. Luthor Squeaking his way through the movie... I dunno.

Ehh... I dunno. I kinda want to see DC movies crash and burn to the point where they take a few years off, re-think their approach and come back at it... WITHOUT Batman. Go for some of the cheerier, or at least less bloody dour characters first, like The Flash or something. But, maybe it'll be good, who knows.

Batman Returns was the only DC movie(or the only superhero movie in general) that could pull off too much stuff.

That's a bit different, since Superman was also really young. I just can't really see a version of the character that's significantly younger than Clark.

... Or he would, anyways, if he didn't have such a weak voice. Luthor Squeaking his way through the movie... I dunno

Yeah, pretty much what I was thinking. IMO, his voice just makes him sound younger than he actually is to me, so I'm not sure how threatening he'll be able to appear.

Superman Returns was already sort of weird in that it was like a half reboot.

Speaking of rebooting things too soon, I wish when they rebooted Spiderman they'd brought him into the rest of the Marvel cinematic universe.

It would have been nice, but not really an option. The rights to Spiderman are owned by a different company, and as long as they keep using him the rights aren't up for bid.

Which, given the current trend in movies, means they will keep using him, even if it's not advisable...

I just saw the latest Spider Man movie, actually. Another one where a major character having a weak voice bothered me. Just kinda... eh overall, as a movie.

So it's like Ang Lee's Hulk? I guess that makes sense.

Is this thread about ponies??

Of course. What makes you think it isn't?
