A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

No Tommy's video mad some great points, it was just.. that voice.. it was so grating... same reason I can't stand the RLM vids.. just.. that voice....

And he gets people are annoyed by it but, doesn't seem to care beyond wanting them to stop botching at him about it. And thinks the EQG video is his best ever.

Script wise, yeah I could see it. But, when you have something, that at least 1/2-2/3 of your audience couldn't actually watch all the way through because of how annoying it was... that hardly qualifies as 'best'

Well if we are going purely original then yeah, if we count animation in and of itself, that uses some existing thing... Children of the Night.

I still think Pop-Cultural Osmosis is enough of a thing to make /b/inkie Pie leaking into the writing a legitimate worry.

I generally don't watch reviews at all. I just don't find them particularly entertaining and I'd rather spend that time actually watching a show

I don't see any point in watching reviews.

but Snowdrop is still the best pony fanimation I have seen.

As far as animation quality, I'd say Children of the Night.

Children had a nice song and interesting concept, but I found myself massively distracted, wondering if the OCs were generated with the random button on one of those ponymaker apps.

As for Button, I find him extremely grating, which probably contributes to the jokes falling flat.

Seeing as even I haven't heard of it, I'm not that worried.

Also, something I just thought of. I'm surprised noone's done a 'You didn't say no purple dragons' joke with Spike

What was the fanon regarding Firecracker Burst? Wouldn't she just get stuck in a mental hopsital after one or two times?

Someday... Someday, someone will make an Octavia drawing where her instrument doesn't look like shit.

I suppose it's worse for you since you're familiar with all the intimate details of their construction.

It took me a while to realize that RD was a girl when I first started watching too.

[up][up][up]Yes and no. I'm not going to be outraged if, for example, someone were to draw a Strad style instrument with Amati style f-holes. I can barely tell the difference myself. (Actually, come to think of it, I don't even know if the Amatis made cellos.) But since I'm around instruments all the time and my career will depend on them if I manage to get through school, their importance is exaggerated in my eye. It seems like an insult that not one single artist, not even the ones who have an ultra-realistic style, make any attempt to draw her with a real-looking instrument. Every single one of them instead goes with that butt-ugly cello/bass hybrid thing in the screenshots from the show. Look up horse anatomy to make sure Octavia's body works right? Check! Spend hours making her fur perfect? Check! Make the lighting positively glow with beauty? Check! Take five minutes to google "cello" and put the same treatment into the other character in the scene? Screw off, nobody'll notice!

Edit: Yes, yes the Amatis made cellos and I was an idiot for doubting that.

I got RD right away. It was AJ I wasn't sure about before I actually sat down and watched the show.

Guys

Guys

Good news.

I'm going in for a skills assessment at Walgreens tonight or tomorrow. If it goes well I might even get an interview/job! Wish me luck. I need it.

Have you tried telling the artists? Maybe they don't really they're doing something wrong. Obviously the cartoonish ones won't care, but the ultra realistic ones might.

@ Ike: That's awesome! Good luck with it.

@ Story: Only once, I did a critique of an Octavia picture on Deviantart and it was positively recieved. But really, once someone's done a picture of Octavia, they're not likely to go back and do another one.

Now that's what I'm talking about. It's got some issues, but is still a cello-shaped object at least. The horseshoe bridge is a cute touch.

No, I'm learning how to make instruments. My schooling is mostly violins, but what are they but mini cellos? And I'm going to make an actual cello at some point in my schooling too.
