A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Ya know, the fandom sure likes to use Pinkie Pie as this oh-so-random semi-villain in fanworks. Consider the usage of the tag "xk-class end-of-the-world scenario", to which even I'm guilty of, whenever Pinkie Pie gets an ounce of cosmic power. We joke that she's like some incarnation of /b/, and that's how we tend to portray her a lot.
Now the writing staff has proved that they listen to the fandom. The reason Pinkie Pie has been this annoying, insensitive extremely emotional nincompoop*, is because that's what they think we want.
*According to Google spell check, this is an actual word, whereas 'fandom' is not.

No they don't listen to the fandom.
Anyway, I'm more annoyed by the excessive fourth wall breakage in fanfics.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayTommy.. it varies, he's good at times, others, just frustrating, like the freaking EGQ review. So much good info and discussion, ruined by that annoying fucking voice...
My faves, are Silver Quill, for both always being fair, looking at an episode from a pretty balanced perspective, never bashing it just to bash, and being just so fucking entertaining about it. only ep of his I dind't love was the BATS! one, and that's just because I'm not a fan of Hunter S Thompson style things.
And Mr. Enter. Who also tends to be prety even, explains his issue well, though does have some of his own problems.
Digi... holy fuck what happened to you Digi, he's just been, so bad this season.
Derpy. Vinyl Scrath.

Mr. Enter is just an amateur.
The problem with Fire Joker's reviews, mainly before he joined FOP Equestria and was aping the Nostalgia Critic format, is that the Critic's videos work because what he is reviewing is legitimately awful. MLP:FiM isn't anywhere near so-so by any stretch! That format does not work here. You get nothing. You lose. Good day sir.

Anyway, I don't think blindness counts as a flaw given that the story would have played out the same without it (except for that BS about hearing the stars or whatever). It's just another trait added to make her more sympathetic.
Also, why bother watching reviews if you hate them so much?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell there is

Friend of mine that's just starting to do some video stuff. Not that good and rather amateur yes, but he's going to try and get some better equipment
Yeah, they listen to the fandom in the sense that they take notice of what characters the fanbase latches onto and probably are aware of some of the memes surrounding those character (i.e. Derpy and Muffins, Lyra and Bon Bon being next to each other, etc.), but more detailed stuff like fanfics are out.
Reaction Image RepositoryTommy's EQG review(s) was overall bad because
- It's pretty much the only MLP-related thing he really does loathe, which doesn't make it an enjoyable experience to watch
- He tried copying Red Letter Media. That failed because the viewers either didn't know what the hell he was referencing for half an hour, or were just annoyed by that voice. It was apparently bad enough that he had to do the whole review again as just himself!
I haven't watched any review videos since the gap between season 1 and 2. Haven't really felt the need to.
EDIT: I've also yet to find any standalone fan animation that I can really say I like. That said, I'll take Snowdrop over Double Rainboom or Button Mash any day.

FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiThe first part. Don't agree with. I really liked the what. And, while yeah it was clear he hated it, he explained why, made some great points about why it failed, what was wrong with it. Went into detail, not just mindless "This sucks!" Over and over, or tiny, little bits that don't really explain why it did. So in the regard it was amazing.
The voice.. holy fuck the voice... it was just.. BAD! Yeah even those who GOT the reference, if they didn't like RLM, they didn't like him doing that style. It was just so grating, so annoying. made it impossible to listen to.
And worst yet, he already said he'll do it again when he does his EQG 2 review. because he really like RLM I guess, and doesn't get just how fucking annoying that voice is.
I generally don't watch reviews at all. I just don't find them particularly entertaining and I'd rather spend that time actually watching a show.
Reaction Image RepositoryThe thing about Red Letter Media is that it's one of those Only the Creator Does It Right sort of things. The actual RLM Plinkett videos work because not only are they funny and informative {If a little too far on the Black Comedy scale}, but the guy who voices the character does a damn good job of pointing out all kinds of flaws with what he reviews, and sometimes he'll even point out how it could have been done better. But when people feel the need to imitate him, it'll usually come off as neither funny nor informative, or it'll just come off as one without the other. Same goes for the Nostalgia Critic and his millions of imitators too {Seriously, Firey Joker's attempts at being funny are full of fail, and I don't get why he doesn't just review the damn episodes instead of throwing around unfunny skits/crossovers}.

But I liked Button's Adventures!
Anyway, I think some of the song animations are cool. It's not quite the same thing, but A Tropcial Octav3 for instance is pretty funny.
