Yeah, we did get the bit in Castle-Maneia about Twilight exploring Celestia and Luna's old castle, but that was way back. Some more episodes like that would be cool. It wouldn't even have to be about the princess thing so much as acknowledging that Twilight is working on it, even if she gets interrupted by other stuff.

People would also be complaining if they put too much emphasis on the "princess" part of Princess Twilight. It's kind of a no-win situation. Any balance they try to find will be criticized by someone. Just sayin'.

All the steps we know of happened in "Princess Twilight Sparkle" when she supervised the royal guard when the Princesses were missing, and thwarted the Everfree Forest going haywire. I suppose Celestia must be preparing Twilight to inherit that decrepid castle without directly telling her that.

and thwarted the Everfree Forest going haywire.

That one was just normal adventuring, not a princess duty.

"She just hasn't demonstrated that responsibility."

Agreed. Twilight may be a princess, but the only time she really did anything with her title was when she had to give orders to the guards, but that only happened because Celestia and Luna were missing. She's been exploring the old castle, but I don't think that's really a royal duty.

Oh, I'm perfectly aware of that. Which is why I didn't support the whole thing in the first place. But now that we're stuck with it, at least they could handle it in a way that doesn't make the whole thing feel like a complete waste.

It's just that all the episodes have been about everyone else. It's kind of hard to just stuff Princess things in there gracefully when she's not the main character of a story. They will eventually need to start focusing on that a bit more, what with everything we potentially know about the season endgame. But by S5, 'Princess' will be more in force, I think.

Cadance did allude to Twi's title in 'Three's a Crowd'. Probably doesn't help, but I felt like mentioning it. tongue

Honestly, I think most of it comes down to people overestimating how much continuity the show is willing to have. It's something that will probably come up in the season premiere and finale, and maybe once or twice during the season, but otherwise the show will be business as usual. And honestly, I think the show is better at episodic slice of life stuff than it is at overarching plotlines.

@JT: That I believe.

Then again, if Princess Celestia and Luna don't get that much focus anyway, maybe this is just par for the course with princesses. tongue

Also, if they hadn't told me one of the minifigs is supposed to be Lightning Dust, I'd have never guessed its identity.

The thing is, the show tends to operate on a "address the issue and then move on" approach to things; they rarely raise a question or issue and let it linger. The sole thing that hasn't been like that is the mystery box, which has be followed up on.

The Princess thing is a bit different; chances are they basically went "okay, we'll address the princess thing in the first two episodes," and now that they've done that, they're setting it to the side until a new "princess" issue arises (like it seems to be implied in this week's episode). I think a good analogy would be to compare it to RD's Wonderbolt aspirations; it's a consistent aspect of the character, but one that only comes up in certain contexts. As it's aimed at a young audience, they probably don't want to bring up the question of "what does Twilight's princess role entail?" unless it's an episode dedicated to answering that question.

@J Teeth: The problem with that is the Twilight's ascension is sort of expected that things would be changed in a very big way, in a way that would entail more then a few token references throughout the season. It also doesn't help that her ascension was hyped as a big deal, a really life changing event, when in fact it really has not changed her life in the slightest. Yes I realize that such a huge shake up was never really in the cards, but if it wasn't then it shouldn't have been implied and this really shouldn't have happened.

Honestly, the vast majority of the hype for it came from the toylines and the marketing. In the show itself it just sort of happens without much buildup and outside of the coronation in the season finale, very few characters in the show raise much of a fuss over it.

I do agree that it feels like it should have more of an effect on the show, but honestly there's a precedent for it. The mane cast has saved the world multiple times and been publicly rewarded for it, yet no one ever brings it up. Twilight being a princess is honestly only a step or two above that. A lot of people just assumed that the ascension would result in a huge status quo change, despite the fact that other events of similar scale didn't change the status quo at all.

Whether or not that's a bad thing is up for debate (I think it would be good to reference it a bit more), but using the show as a baseline, I think that there isn't a ton of basis to assume that things would be too shaken up.

I think it's gonna be important again at the finale, if only because of a stray image on derpibooru.

It mentioned a rainbow kingdom.

Speaking of rainbows jesus christ was that Adventure Time episode so fricking bright! Incase your wondering it's the episode where Finn and Jake meet Lady Rainicorn's parents. And I'm jealous that Story's practically cleared most of season 2 and I've barely even made it halfway yet.

It was mentioned in some toy descriptions from the toy fare that there would be a "rainbow kingdom" and it was on the box with Twi and the rest of the mane six.
