A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Well, I've really had huge problems with Pinkie since the really early episodes.
You know why I liked Pinkie so much in A Friend in Deed? They not only acknowledged how hurtful she can be, but Pinkie put in actual effort into trying to be a better pony for the sake of another. That was something I believed she was too selfish and immature to do.
But then this episode happens and it's like I'm being told, "No. You were right. Pinkie is a horrible pony and friend." I would not want someone who treats people like Pinkie does as my friend. If you are making a friend feel awful and people call you out on it and you carry on anyway, I'm sorry, but you suck.
Also, as they were mentioned earlier, we've had flying cars for over fifty years. They just aren't popular outside of use as taxis in Mexico City, because they're incovenient.
I am flummoxed. I don't get why people are being so hard on Pinkie Pie. She was funny in Filli Vanilli.
So yeah, she made Fluttershy cry. But it was still funny. The way she gets carried away with things, getting crazy dramatic, that part where she went cock-eyed when she said "Never show yourself in Ponyville AGAAAAAAAAAIN"...
That was all really funny. Insensitive maybe, but Pinkie Pie can be like that.
And it wasn't like Fluttershy was scarred forever.
You gotta believe me when I scare you away, all that I wish for is that you would stayI'm with you on that. As her rant was going forward, I was actually thinking that Pinkie was being awful and overdoing it, but then she just kept going, and suddenly it did a 180 to being hilarious.
Oh, it's funny when she doesn't realize it.
And the others DID notice. I especially liked when Rarity smacked her over the head and told her to not be ridiculous.
Which is pretty much her thing.

Actually, Pinkie's one line - "But I'm so good at [being silly]" kinda puts all of her behaviour in Filly Vanilli in perspective. She was joking, plain and simple. Yes, the joke went too far and was hurtful, and that was wrong of her, but the thing is, calling somebody out on being hurtful doesn't really work if they don't understand why what they said was hurtful.
Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy are diametric opposites, in terms of personality. Pinkie Pie doesn't just like the spotlight, she needs it. We've seen near-constantly in episodes that focus on her her desire to have attention paid, to receive affection and love in the form of people watching her and laughing with her. She's probably borderline incapable of understanding how stage fright feels, let alone the sheer neurosis that Fluttershy experiences; a fear that borders on mental imbalance.
So think about what Pinkie is saying from her perspective. When she goes on about the crowd staring at you and judging you, does she really experience performing that way? Or was she playing up Fluttershy's fears in order to show Fluttershy how silly they were - not realizing that it was impossible to play them up any more than Fluttershy actually experiences them? She tries to make the whole situation sound so over the top it becomes silly - which resonates with us; that scene was supposed to be funny - but it doesn't resonate with Fluttershy. Pinkie doesn't get that though, because she doesn't get Stagefright, so to her it does sound funny. So when she's admonished she doesn't really get what went wrong, and tries to play it up more the next time.
Yes, she should have stopped after the first go, but she wasn't being mean. She was trying to calm Fluttershy's nerves with a joke, and it backfired.

ALL of the feels.
PS: That pony poking her head out of the stump reminds me of Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.
Is it just me, or is young Marlon Brando a totally different person from old Marlon Brando?
Well, I wouldn't worry about that too much. We've made a habit of looking at the show in-depth since the thing began, and with some small exceptions things have never gotten too heavy here. The issues that do tend to cause friction tend to be a lot more minor or personal - Ginger's tics for example, or Seraph and PH.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I'd call Pinkie's behavior Innocently Insensitive. She has no concept of stage fright. Heck, she didn't even know what it was until Twi explained it to her. Even then, she just didn't get it.
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out! They all have issues. Fluttershy's are definitely more out in the open, though.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Twi tried to be one, but she had more issues than the patient.

I've reached the point in Bravely default where combat boils down to "magic user spams Meteor, everyone else attacks." I'd heard this game suffered from Ending Fatigue, so even though the plot just keeps getting better, I'm starting to understand the complaints.
