A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

Yeah unfortunately, the writers (or just Amy) seem to be getting carried away with boundaries to some people.

Here's my take on her role in Filli Vanilli: the story needs someone to stress what exactly Flutershy fears in performing on-stage. This is a show meant for kids. Stories in these cartoons often need to be overly clear what the conflict is, often to the extent that it's spelled out. Pinkie was chosen for this role, for whatever reason, and hey! Pinkie shouts and is crazy right?? Let's have her get in Fluttershy's face about how she's a spineless yellow-bellied recluse! But some character had to communicate that to the audience as well as her. Also, it helped Fluttershy on her journey to dealing with the phobia all the more! She may not apologize for it, but the other 4 were clearly annoyed and Pinkie got 1.) a slap on the head with a paper, and 2.) abandoned by all once Fluttershy rain out of her cottage. Pinkie was very concerned about what she did, by the look of her face.

Eh, Pinkie did go way to far this time. The overall idea for what she was doing, that was fine. They just pushed it to far. Made her to mean. Even if unwittingly. Yes she tends to have issues with not really being able to get a hint, or being able to read others emotions at times. But it's subtle signs she can't pick up on, Fluttershy out right in tears.. that's something she should have noticed.

Pinkie NEVER really gets the hint. She was like that since Season 1, but Season 1 had MORE of those moments when she DID.

We got "Pinkie Apple Pie" and "Pinkie Pride". THOSE never made the bronies get the hint?!

To be fair, Pinkie was pretty happy-go-lucky in Pinkie Apple Pie as well; that was more of an Applejack episode.

But yeah, I think what they were aiming for was basically to have Pinkie vocalize all of Fluttershy's concerns and fears. Which is a good idea given the audience, but it also makes Pinkie seems really insensitive.

"Mainly people complaining about the fact that outside of episodes where she's a primary character, she tends to be comic relief and not do much else."

... Hasn't that been the case since season 1?

Yeah the idea was sound, just the execution was botched.

t's mostly due to the fact that so far this season she's been portrayed as a Genki Girl without many other aspects of her personality getting much focus. Aside from "Pinkie Pride", she's basically been a comedic character.

I think she got decent focus in Pinkie Apple Pie too.

Also, she was way worse in AFID than FV.

In other news, I found an article about some ridiculous Dungeons and Dragons classes, ranging from the unfortunately named (fetishist, ghetto fighter) to the purely stupid (urban druid, anchorite). One of them is the Unicorn Rider class.

Anyone else wanna go play some D&D?

I'm not familiar with the Unicorn Rider (is that from Bo ED?), but I do know that the Healer class gets a pet unicorn.

So Pinkie Pie is now in RD's predicament in Season 2? (Specifically around MMDW)

Also, there's more than one Urban Druid, and they're more like class variants than seperate classes.

It's from Elves of Evermeet. I don't know which edition that is.

Also, one of the other classes is the Barbarian Fighter.

... I feel like that's way too redundant.

@Ike: That's what I've been saying. Pinkie does have some issues, but they aren't specific to this season.

@Morning: That's a good way of summing it up, really.

@Morning. Was just thinking of that, too. Man, I really dislike when fans let their obsessions ruin the reputation of an otherwise very good episode.

Of course, if you really want to talk about poorly designed classes, just look at the poor Monk. Anyway, I'm mostly familiar with 3.5ed, though I also played PF with Sera for a while. But in my experience, playing D&D over Skype doesn't work so well.

P.S. If you're looking at previous editions, you should expect everything to have stupid names. The Wizard was named Magic User for crying out loud!

Okay, I went and finished Adventure Time season 2. The Lich himself wasn't as creepy as I was expecting, but Possessed mutant Princess Bubblegum caught me off guard.

It takes some getting used to true.

And hey Ponies for Pathfinder, gives us the shear absurdity, of a Pony cavalier. I pony, wielding a lance, while rising on the back of a horse.

I remember reading about one person who was running a Red Hoof of Doom campaign. They had a bit of trouble reworking it to include pegasi without breaking the game.

So far the ponyfinder book seems pretty well balanced. Some of the races could use some tweaking but on the whole, it looks amazing. We're going to start a campaign with the beta test book next week.
