A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

Eh, Hype Backlash. The two really are just sort of average.

Again, what still don't get the whole backlash thing. If you don't like something fine, but not liking it, because others do?

And they made THIS

Granted Generosity wasn't all that great.

[up]It's mainly a case of raising expectations too high. If you tell someone a song is going to be the best thing ever, and it isn't they'll be disappointed, whereas if you don't tell them how great it is, they'll draw their own conclusions.

In other news, Flutterbutt.

It's not that others tell me I like it so I don't, it's that others tell me I should like it after I found it sort of OK. both aren't bad singers or musicians, but I think they get a little too much exposure.

Slept in this morning and spent most of the day reading. Just now watching the episode. Thought today was gonna be the Breezies episode though. Weird. Anyway...

Exactly. Double Rainboom claimed to be a professional quality episode, so it was judged as such and it was terrible.

I've seen a lot of fanfic that are highly praised simply for having correct grammar and avoiding the obvious cliches. But even the best fanfics would be criticized if you judged them by the standards of published literature (well maybe not 50 shades, but you know what I mean).

But that is the people who MADE IT, saying that it would be something that it isn't. False Advertizing.

It's still a matter of expectations being set and then not met.

This is why whenever I go into something new I try to avoid setting my sights too high, so I can judge it on its actual merits rather than my expectations.

[up][up]Even if it's not by the author, it can still feel like false advertising. If you tell me something is the best whatever in the history of the medium, and it turns out that it isn't, I'm going to feel like I wasted my time. Whereas if I didn't go into it expecting a work of genius, I might be pleasantly surprised.

Discount Chocolate Day is the best day! grin

Wait, is that today? Is discount chocolate day today because it's the day after Valentine's Day and the stores have a tuba-ton of chocolate that they don't know what to do with? Because I've been putting off grocery shopping, and if it is, then I just may have to step out for a few minutes.

Ohhh I'd want some chocolate right now. Maybe a packet of Mand Ms or a nice Mars bar to tide me over.

As long as it's dark chocolate, I'll take it.

It's very high quality and very pure. Legally enforced purity. None of that wax filler shit you get with American chocolate.

The darker the chocolate, the better apparently.

@Chocolate: I don't mind chocolate really. Though to be honest, as long as it isn't a big brick of it, I should be fine.
