A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

There's a lot of things our generation can't think of the same way after watching that movie.

I finally got around to watching it last year since my library had it on DVD

I think it was pretty good until the steamroller scene. That part just ruined it for me.

@Story What? What's so bad about the steamroller scene?

The villian was a lot more effective as a human IMO. The sheer banality of his plot - highways! gas stations! is both funny and chilling. They have it set up where it's a combination of two worlds colliding, but also overtones of The Magic Goes A Way. And then it's revealed that the villian was secretly a Toon all along and it just goes out the window and it's just a story about a random lunatic. Plus I thought his Toon form looks really stupid.

@Story Dude that was the scariest part of the film for me, and I still get terrified of Judge Doom to this day.

YMMV I guess. I though that he looked too silly to take seriously once he changed. IMO his human form was a lot scarier.

@Story Judge Doom is literally the thing that haunts my nightmares even after knowing what he really is. He's like the one thing I wouldn't want to run into in a dark alleyway.

In other news, why do people insist on writing fics in second person so much? It never works. Just saw one featured on Fimfic with the description

College sucks. At least, you think so.

Yeah, no. At least I can skip it after reading the first sentence of the description.

Second person? As if "And then you fell on spikes and died. Oops"?

Yeah, the only place second person really works is in CYOA stories.

yeah, the very tense makes me feel uncomfortable, unless the protagonist is transparent like a cyoa or interactive fiction game.

The main problem with 2nd person fic is that it almost always results in the protagonist doing something the reader wouldn't, which basically results in immersion constantly being shattered. Unless it's either played for comedy or a CYOA type thing, it rarely works.

Even then. Space Rangers 2 may be my favourite game of all time ever, but its second person text quests sometimes go ten million yards too far in trying to give the main character a comedic personality. It'll sometimes claim you have missing front teeth, for example.
