A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Well we now officially have a love rectangle, though I doubt we'll ever hear from Trenderhoof again. There was one part there where Rarity was freaking out that reminded me so much of her stint as Wendy O./Kootie Pie Koopa.
Though the highlight absolutely has to be Rarity trying to mimic Applejack's accent. You just can't top that. Unless Applejack had tried a "high society" accent at the end too.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!"Twilight's First Day"
has updated.
I really wish we could make an exception to the "no embeddings gifs" rule, because this
would make a perfect "ABANDON THREAD" macro.
@ JT: "I must go. My planet needs me."
I put my friend in a coconut! He lives in my hat! Hey, come hang out!Just caught the episode. Pretty funny overall. Rarity doing the fake accent was hilarious.
Also, the Mayor talks! She hasn't gotten a talking role since what, The Last Roundup? I was beginning to wonder when she'd show up again.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI thought one of the most interesting parts was where AJ says that nopony likes farming that much, even her.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI was surprised by that too. For a moment, I really thought there was going to be a song.
One other thing noone's mentioned: Why were Rarity's tears black? It was realyl distracting.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI figure she just either wasn't attracted to him, or it was just kind of a progression - he first talked to her by bothering her while she was working, and in doing so kinda revealed he obviously didn't know much about it and was just kinda out there...
Plus, slightly racist?(I love the work ethic of Earth Ponies)
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I think it was the other way around. Remember that Trenderhoof didn't see AJ until after he started gushing about the farm. He crushed on AJ because she fit his romanticized notions of farming. He didn't fake an interest in farming because of AJ.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAJ wasn't interested in Trenderhoof because she knows Trenderhoof is Big Mac's type, and she's been down that road before. Nothing good exists down there.
I see it more as she isn't interested in Trenderhoof because why would she be? Randomly crushing on ponies is not the normal state of affairs.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play@Kegisak: He struck me kinda like someone who had good intentions, but very little actual understanding. Though it's kinda hard to say given we know so little about the differences in culture between the pony races. He's basically Innocently Insensitive to a max; he wants to be complimentary but doesn't really understand it, and tries to sound like he knows what he's talking about. Sort of like someone who visits Mexico and gushes about how Taco Bell is their favorite restaurant.
He genuinely is into farming, but he tends to think of it in such a romantic and idealized manner that it bears little resemblance to what day-to-day farm life is actually like. AJ doesn't dislike him on principle, she's just annoyed that he's following her around while she's trying to get stuff done.

Reaction Image RepositoryI just watched it and liked it a lot, especially the humor of Rarity and Applejack trying to imitate each other!
About the only thing is that as was mentioned, it ended rather abruptly, but it's not that big of a problem to me. Plus I like the whole "be yourself" lesson thing. I think I especially like that they did it in a way that is opposite the usual way that lesson plays out, where someone tries to be fancy and realizes that being fancy doesn't suit them, like Applejack in the Cutie Mark Chronicles. Instead, it's acknowledging that being fancy and into fashion is, for Rarity, being genuinely herself. I think the best thing is showing how Applejack and Rarity's relationship has grown since Look Before You Sleep. In that one, they kept trying to get the other one to change and were both kind of saying "Why can't you be more like me?!" but in this one they both noted that Rarity acting like Applejack and Applejack acting like Rarity is unnatural.
@storyyeller: I assumed that the "black tears" was her make-up running, since she'd be the type to wear eyeshadow and mascara.
@possible racism: That is a rather odd thing for Trenderhoof to say. It's actually the first time we've ever heard anypony use stereotypes like that, at least outside of the Hearth's Warming Eve play. I would assume that there may be some racial stereotyping between the three groups but that ponies who do so are pretty rare or at least it's rarer than racial stereotyping unfortunately is in real life. Especially since we've seen plenty of high-class Earth ponies (such as the infamous Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon) and no one comments on them as being unusual for Earth ponies, so maybe ponies like Trenderhoof who would make remarks like that are rare but they do exist.

Yeah, I think this episode shows that they do have a better understanding of each other, even though when they try to trade roles it doesn't quite work.
Reaction Image RepositoryBut then if he's been trying to get into farming to live his own delusional dream and not for the sake of somepony else, Rarity telling him the lession is kinda weird, because then that's not the lesson he needs to learn.
I thought that too, but I didn't see any eyeshadow so I was confused.

My favorite line: "Who's ow-er next...maw-dell for the fashion shaowww?" Tabitha's delivery was just so perfect.
