A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I really need to watch Steven Universe sometime. From what I've seen of it through stuff around the internet, it looks like a really fun show, and a good example of varied character representation.

I have a message from another time...

I just keep thinking that it's a show about Steven Magnet.

So somebody calculated pony heights again using the lineup from the song. And as usual, the result is that the average mare is between 3-4 feet tall, aka perfect hug size.

I'm not sure how to feel about this, considering I always pictured Equestria ponies being around 4'6" to 5' tall. An average of 3'6" is good for hugging and tummy rubs, sure, but I'm afraid I'd squish them if they tried to carry me on their backs.

Well even the earliest calculations all seemed to agree on 3-4 feet.

I'm having an argument over in OTC about the value of language learning.

It's always valuable because of the way it makes your brain stretch, even if you never use it - and you never know when it'll be useful.

Like, what is there to argue here? It's a useful skill. End of discussion.

The question is whether it's useful enough given the amount of time and effort required to learn and the existing dominance of English. I mean you could say almost the same things about learning math. Personally, I think learning math would be easier and much more valuable for the average American.

Wasn't that the game that almost got banned because of its "controversial content" (which is E10+-rated by today's standards, if that?).
