A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

The Encounter that ended the Dogma
I would like to point out that Pinkie and Cheese are already too zany for the low-key humor of the show.
For the rest of the show, I can see that. For this particular sequence, it fits fine, I think.
Besides, the 'felt' thing from season 2 can kind of be considered live-action in a way.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectBut Spongebob does it all the time. When you just do it once, it's funny.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI wish I had a rubber chicken named Boneless. And by rubber chicken I mean parrot. And when I mean Boneless I mean Jack.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qI find it extremely likely this face was traced over from the storyboards.
The expressiveness is pretty off the charts, even for this show's already high standards.
In the premiere, some of Luna's faces from the animatics definitely made it into her final animation during her transformation sequence.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWhile I can understand why it might not appeal to everyone, I thought that gag was great. Like others have said, it works mainly because it's so unexpected. If it was a common thing, it would get annoying really fast, but the fact that it's basically one of only two times the show has ever done that (the other being the felt sequence in A Friend in Deed) means it doesn't really bother me. This episode in general was basically constructed to specifically stretch the show to it's limit; so it's natural that they're going to experiment a bit.
So yeah, as a one-off gag I think it works, but I'd rather not see it again. It loses the punch each subsequent time you do it.

Reaction Image RepositoryThey could parody anime next.
Or is that a bit redundant?
I think the show is already too Animesque to do that with any degree of subtlety. In order to make it clear that it was an anime nod and not just happenstance within the art style it would have to be a really blatant shout out. Like, we'd basically have to see ponified Goku to make it clear.

Reaction Image Repository@Star Well...yes and no. I want to make vids like Jon Tron but I will never be funnier than him. Or like him. Also, I said Jack, not Jacques.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qI have seen some anime-styled fake screencaps that look plenty different from the show.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project@Kyler: It's subtle, but it definitely qualifies. It's especially evident with the giant eyes.

Reaction Image RepositoryI think a good black and white 'film noir' thing could be cool as well.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectUnfortunately Sponge Bob is just too cliche and "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny for it's own good.
