A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

Well it wouldn't have gone exactly as planned, but it obviously would have been different.

@Meta: You hit the nail on the head basically. Here's where the problem those assumptions are: Let's just assume that Faust stayed on and her plans came to fruition and the show turns darker and delves more into adventure fantasy in the second season:

  • Fans of S1 and S2 claim the show has jumped the shark because she lost sight of what made the show so good to begin with.
  • Celestia and/or Luna are killed off, the resulting shitstorm dwarfs the Twilicorn drama.
  • The ideas get meddled with anyway.
  • (This is the main one): Meghan McCarthey hints at what her plans for the show would have been. Upon hearing about the possibilities Discord and Trixie being redeemed, the elements being removed from the setting, and Twilight becoming a princess, the fanbase declares that Faust had Protection from Editors and McCarthey should've taken over the show before it went downhill.

Also, I can actually kinda see how Trixie might have been significant as kind of an evil version of Twilight who's hellbent on screwing her up. Sort of like if "Magic Duel" had ended with Trixie swearing revenge again rather than reforming.

[up]Wait, why on earth would we know of Meghan's ideas? Would she have even come up with half this stuff if she wasn't given the big chair? Would the fanbase have received those ideas the same way they have now since. . .you know, they actually happened?

I really don't think that last point is as important as you think.

So, I'm committed to the idea that the gifts the girls are getting are the keys to the box.

Also, that glow that they get in their eyes still means something. I think it's when they realize that they put something above their friends—Rarity with Fashion Week, Rainbow Dash with winning, and Pinkie Pie with being the best party planner.

And then those gifts they get, the thread, the badge, and Cheese Sandwich's rubber chicken, actually are the keys. tongue

[up] Uh, can't tell if you haven't figured that out, or are just joking. because the fact that it's their keys is incredibly obvious.

[down] Yeah. I'd say it's very likely Shy's getting her's in the breezie episode. And Twilight Time has her with the CMC, so maybe that one. Either way, the interactions will be nice.

Of course I'm joking—how can you open one of those locks with a rubber chicken?

Well unless the right locks are on the other side. Or the gifts are like the Elements of Harmony and they'll change shape to fit...or you push hard enough.

Who still hasn't gotten anything yet? Applejack, Fluttershy and Twilight?

@Mio: For the same reasons we've heard about what Faust would have done. At some point someone would have eventually made some comment about the direction the show could've taken. All it would take is one of the writers mentioning an idea that could've happened, and the fans would jump on it. Even if not her specifically, the point is the same: The minute the fans hear about something that could've happened, they'll probably jump on it as being an improvement, especially if they aren't fans of whatever is actually happening.

[up]Yup, those three are still pending.

If the key items do change to fit the locks, that'll just raise more questions. For example- could ANY item be a key? Or does it have to be special somehow? What makes that rainbow effect happen? Etc.

@Star Let's just say what you said is an understatement. I love this show so much! MLP, Adventure Time, Regular Show and Futurama are now my fav cartoon shows. Adventure Time is so weird! I love it because I somehow can take the weirdness but it surprises me all the time.

BTW, when I get paid next week, I'm getting the entire box set of Futurama.

you have no idea. Tell me when you eventually get to King Worm, that one's really trippy. Funnily enough, the titular villain is voiced by Weird AL.

Yeah, I finally finished the first season of Adventure Time, and I'm starting on S2 now.

[up] I just want to say that the first season was a bit hit-or-miss for me, but the last three episodes were all really good, and from what I've seen of the second season it keeps that up.

As for the key items, my guess is that they become relevant due to the circumstances surrounding them: every key item so far was a gift from somepony else who learned something from the mane cast. Coco learned the importance of not looking solely out for number one and caring about others, Spitfire learned to be more loyal and honest to her own teammates, and Cheese Sandwich learned the importance of keeping others in mind when trying to make them happy rather than just trying to impress someone else.

So I'd say yeah, any object could become a key if it meets that criteria.

@Marcen I dunno, I think I'd get into Adventure Time more than Regular Show cuz the latter just seems like it's being weird just for the sake of being weird.

@Star And that's why I love Regular Show. I can relate to being weird for the sake of being weird if it's done right. And to me, it's done right. Every episode I watched so far is pretty much a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.

Which never happened, and the "silly camping trip" wasn't even IN the Everfree.

But they sill casually saunter into the forest to do mundane stuff like look for books these days.

@Discussion of other shows: -shrug- Didn't watch them honestly... was more focused with college and friends, not to mention Dwarf Fortress.

Anywho, got nothing more to contribute really.
