A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.

All of the usual forum rules apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I don't know WHAT the Hell happened (I blame shenanigans) but we're going to start from scratch. Post your feels for this awesome show again! Naow!

It doesn't surprise me. One time when I was a kid, my grandma started ranting about how white folks and "colored folks" shouldn't be allowed to marry. I couldn't have been older than 9 and even then I thought it was stupid. I didn't want to say anything because I would have gotten in some serious trouble. Had I been older though, I would have said something about it, but the subject never came up again.

Awwww. I wonder how many seemingly difficult decisions and controversial things would be solved if we just got a group of kids and explained things in simple terms.

I guess I should be happy that my grandparents weren't like that. tongue

At least not that you know about. That's the best part about old person racism, the way it can just blindside you and screw with your perception of what you though was a nice old lady.

My grandparents on my father's side of the family are bigots, but my mother's parents aren't.

[up][up]I've seen them interact with people of other races before. If they were secretly racist, they're very good at hiding it. And knowing how outspoken they can be on other stuff, I doubt they'd bother if they were.

Mine are of the more 'not hateful, but casually racist by upbringing' camp. For example my grandma saying she saw some police cars at a fellows house, which she needed to punctuate with, "So what if he's indian?"

Well, I dunno Grandma, YOU brought his race up, so...

And of course, like many older people in Manitoba, racism against natives. Oh, the racism against natives.

Y'know, on second thought, I'm gonna pull that link and just recommend searching youtube for "clerks 2 racist grandma" if you're interested. Loooot more offensive than I remembered, but no less funny.

Well it's only your grandparents. At least your parents are (hopefully) not racist like mine can be.

Well she's wasn't that old but I remember someone saying that she didn't like Obama because she couldn't pronounce his name. When I pointed out that Guiliani was harder to pronounce, she said, "oh he's Italian, I can trust him". Somehow, I have the feeling this wasn't actually about names.

That's pretty warped logic, bordering on nonsense.

I think half of us want to gush about the episode, and the other half wants to wait until tomorrow, so we can gush about the episode. I've heard nothing but positive comments about it at any rate.

Ah, okay. I haven't seen it yet myself, but I have been hearing good things too, while trying to avoid spoilers.

Goodness knows I need some good poni after this week...

Well I'm waiting until tomorrow morning to watch it. Speaking of hair dye, what's with the Mayor? Has she even had any lines since The Last Roundup?

@Story I don't think she's even appeared again in the series. She's not used as often as she was in season 1 and 2.

I saw the new episode early too, but I'm going to wait to post more in-depth spoiler comments until after it airs tomorrow, because I know that most people aren't spoiler hounds like me. I will say that I did like it, and I was relieved that it didn't go the route that I feared it might. (which I will explain in my review of it later)
