A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

Story: Yeah.
Marcen: I dunno. At least here in Saskatchewan (where we've been eating the same ridiculously horrible weather as Manitoba), January seems to be our worst, where temperatures drop to the -30C to -35C range before windchill (which usually drops it another 10 to 15 degrees). The wind usually stays just as bad, but February usually has a nice, balmy -20C to -25C base temperature.
Sereg: It's part of a major cultural ritual. While I also agree that from a practical standpoint, they were being unreasonable, I can understand why they would be enraged by what would appear to be gross and uncaring entitlement.
FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiThere needs to be a Wonderbolts episode that doesn't end with people hating Spitfire. Because, I mean, damn.
I wouldn't say that, necessarily. While she varies a bit, every episode has put her in very different situations. We have seen a bit of consistent character, really: Appreciation for hard work, a serious drive and a relatively forgiving nature when she can actually allow for it.
Also, I think the Buffalo's major contention was somebody else moving onto their cultural land without asking them first. Yeah, the settlers didn't know it belonged to them, but if I came home and found a stranger camping in my backyard I'd be annoyed too.
And for the record, I don't think that you can really say that real life parallels have no influence on your decision. Whether or not you're aware of it, living in a country where similar things have happened does influence your view on it on a cultural level.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I think February in Canada is more depressing in terms of cold. January is cold but it's June compared to February. Thank God next month is the shortest of the year.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615q@Kegisak: Thing is, I'd assume that your backyard has, like, a fence or a house or something that makes it evident that yes, this area belongs to someone and it's being used. In the episode proper, the ponies had no indication at all that the land was anything but wilderness before they showed up. I mean, I can understand why they'd be angry about it, obviously, but at the same time, it's kind of their own fault for not putting up a sign or something. It's like if you part in the same parking spot every time you go to the store, and on some day you get there to find that somebody else parked there. It might be annoying and inconvenient for you, but it doesn't mean that you can boot them out of the spot.
There are problems here, but I honestly can't fault the ponies for any of it unless they somehow knew that the buffalo were using the land.
That said, it really doesn't have to do much with my dislike for the episode. What bugged me more was that the mane cast doesn't really contribute anything to the plot, and the resolution happens purely through happenstance.

Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, I agree. It's difficult to really accept the Buffalo's side of things, especially since, as the one's with the initial grievance, it was kind of their responsibility to open communication which they clearly didn't do. So it's difficult to be sympathetic. Just, I think they did have justification to be upset, even if the weight of their issue wasn't equal.
they had grounds to open a dialogue, basically. Their issue wasn't so minor I'd consider it justified to brush it off.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@Kegisak: Exactly. I can totally sympathize with why they were angry, but the fact that they defaulted to "let's try to drive the ponies off of our land" as opposed to "let's explain why we want them to move" it makes it a lot harder to view them as having an equally valid argument. From the ponies' perspective, the buffalo just showed up and told them to get lost without explanation. If they had played it where the buffalo explained their side of the story and the ponies still were reluctant to go, it would have played out more evenly.
Still wouldn't have fixed the fact that the resolution was pure luck, or that Braeburn is grating, but it would have been a step up.
@CDRW: I dunno, in a sport context her action wasn't really that odd. If you're on like a basketball team or whatever and one of your players gets injured, trying to replace them with a healthy player who's just as good or better is sort of standard procedure, especially if they injured themselves as a result of their own incompetence. As captain, it's her responsibility to make her team as strong as it can possibly be, which sometimes involves replacing teammates with someone else if they can't perform for whatever reason. The only questionable thing she does is lie to RD about how severe Soarin's injury was, and she apologizes for that as soon as RD calls her out on it.

Reaction Image Repository@Star I hear that, man. It's stupid. Strangely enough, I'm not that cold when it snows. It's possibly it's because there's no wind but, Jesus, when it blows, it blows.
https://youtu.be/_1F5HhUvFbM?si=csgwerqELcG6615qOff the top of my head I'm going to say I'd rather be cold. If I'm cold I can always put on another sweater or a blanket or something. If you're boiling hot and wearing shorts and a t-shirt, you aren't getting any cooler. That and when you're too hot you sweat, and I hate being sweaty.
