A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

As a cashier, I was totally okay with small talk and I don't mind it when talking to a cashier as a customer. I do have a bit of an aversion to getting stopped and talked to at work now when I'm not at my desk (where I expect to sometimes have someone come and say they need me) or in the break room (when I'm trying to actually be social). The two most irritating places are probably the hallway (because I'm usually thinking and aside from that, stopping and talking the hall tends to block people off and I hate getting in other peoples' way) and the washroom (need I say more?).

Yeah, I had to do a lot of talking at my last job. And probably at my next one, where (if I get the job at the DOR) I'll be doing the calling rather than taking calls again.
Also, can't wait to see the Celestia doll. I bet it looks great.
Oh wow, that's awkward. Who even does that?

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/@Mike: Well, here's
what she looks like, hair down and next to her (frankly vacant eyed) store bought counterpart.
I find it most awkward when we have customers tell us their life stories. Although some are really touching, some just veer into Too Much Information territory. I feel awkward knowing so much about a person I've just met.

"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. Sark@Ike: People do that all the time. In school it seemed like there were more people talking than walking in the hallways.
Reaction Image RepositoryGwen- trust me, I know what you mean. I had one customer talk to me about periods and then fall asleep. It was awkward as hell.
and I was referring to the bathroom part.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I had another lady call at 4:50 (we close at 5, for the record) and talked for a good half hour about all the problems she's having. Only about 5 minutes were related to health care. Which is what I'm actually supposed to help with. And she sounded so sad the whole time.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I hate when people ask how are you, because I can never figure out whether to acutally tell them or just say fine.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI think the answer to that one depends on how well you know them. If it's a friend or family member, actually telling them how you're doing is fine. If you don't know them well (or don't know them at all) it's better to just be polite and say "I'm okay, and you?"
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/The other thing is that it just seems to so artificial. If you're both going to say you're fine no matter what, what's the point of even asking?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayIt's just kind of something people do. There isn't really a "point" to it, per se.

http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/You say "sorry about that" or ask what happened (if you actually care).
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/I'm a very empathetic guy, so I'll usually listen to someone's story despite myself. I've heard so many tear jerkers over the years it's not even possible to count them all. A good 500 at least. You gotta share, you gotta care. It's the right thing to do.

The other thing that's awkward is when your troubles are probably not that significant and the other person might be worse.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAgreed. I'm willing to listen and I'll do what I can to help. It's a lot worse if there's nothing I can do.

Evenin' all.
Finished painting and sealing my EG Celestia, and now I'm considering doing a Derpy one, Just because I don't hate myself enough, apparently.
On the subject of talking: I don't like talking to people, so naturally my job requires I approach people a talk to them. :I On the plus side, I think it's helped me become better at speaking with strangers. Still not a particularly talkative one, though.
I loved it when I was in high school, people would be really shocked when they heard me swearing because I was The Quiet One
