A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I know it didn't get pulled for Derpy, I'm just saying. It's funny. :P
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/So I'm talking to mom, explaining brony stuff to her (including that yes there are indeed female fans, who are occasionally called by another term) and she says she might have to kill herself. XD I know she's joking. But is it really that weird?
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/She knows I'm a fan, she's known for a while. She just wishes I'd grow up now that I'm 20. I think that's stupid.
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/There's two things wrong with that.
One, the idea that liking cartoons means you aren't 'grown up'.
Two, the idea that people actually grow up.

She clearly has very traditional views on how people of your age (and probably gender) should enjoy and how they should act. No amount of explaining is likely going to change that so it's best to just leave it be.
People do grow up. Not exactly in the same way, but a person at 30 is certainly not the same they were at 10 (hopefully).

-slinks in with a pair of frozen feet- Well, I'm back... curse this cold snap... Seems like I missed words on the second film, but for now, I'm kinda holding off on my opinion on that for the reason of waiting until they provide the final product.
As for the cartoons = immaturity detail, that is such a... misconception, that even I would have to writhe in agony...
@Mio's statement of growing up at different rates: I can agree to that one wholeheartedly, given how I think I'm about 40 years mentally, but I digress.
@Mio: Yeah, but... I suppose I should have clarified.
Growing up doesn't mean you stop liking 'childish' things, not inherently. Maybe it's just me, but the fast majority of adults in my life have enjoyed doing the same dorky, silly, childish things that one expects kids to do. Yeah, you pay bills and do chores and stuff, but that doesn't mean fun things stop being fun, you just learn to understand that certain things must be done.
Hell, I'd argue an aspect of maturity is learning that you don't have to give up a lot of the things you found fun, as long as they're not like, hurting anybody.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.@kegi: Water balloon fights will never not be fun, for example, but you still have to go to the laundromat.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectCS Lewis: One of the patron saints of adults who watch ponies.
@kegisak: Well of course. I see it all the time myself. It's just that when you put it that way it makes it sound like just because somethings don't change means that you haven't changed.
I'm starting to think that C.S Lewis quote gets thrown around to often, even if it is certainly relevant.

@Kegisak: Yeah, growing more mature doesn't mean that you lose childish interests, just that you enjoy them from a different perspective. If the thing you liked was a work of quality to start with, you might appreciate it even more than you did as a child.
Also, to add a quote from Walt Disney: "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are just kids grown up."
Reaction Image Repository@Kegisak: Also, what's the deal with that tumblr? Is it just like female snails or what?
Reaction Image Repository^ Crossdressing Snails. Possibly transsexual Snails, but s/he hasn't worked that out for hirself yet.
