@ Seraphem: It is Spitfire's responsibility to know when the people she's training are the sort who will get their teammates injured or killed. If she's not personally watching, she should have other people watching and reporting. The way she runs things is the definition of gross negligence.

[down]Not sure how you got the impression anyone was saying they weren't.

@CDRW: I think you're emphasizing the "military" bit a bit much. Aside from Spitfire acting like a drill sergeant, the WA doesn't have any other military trappings. Also, given how the Equestrian army tends to fare whenever they show up, I seriously doubt they have that kind of discipline. Yes, in boot camp drill instructors stamp that stuff out. But the WA is not a boot camp; it's a sport camp that happens to be run by someone with drill sergeant like tendencies.

The only military stuff we've seen is that Spitfire styles herself like a drill instructor, and that the Wonderbolts were mobilized to deal with giant!Spike. And the latter honestly doesn't mean much considering that if they are a military group it's kinda weird that the mane six see far more action. Think of the Wonderbolts less as a military organization and more of an extreme sports group.

And if the precision is that big of a deal, it honestly kinda justifies Spitfire giving Soarin the cold shoulder because he screwed up a routine by not focusing enough. A screwup like he made in practice could easily cost the team an easy win, so naturally she'd be put out at him.

Her cockiness went a bit far in this episode. She's learning something that she should have learned before!

Also, I watched Luna Eclipsed again...why do I find myself blushing anytime Luna is on screen?

@Star I used to watch that movie everytime I went to my cousin's house when I was little and I acted some scenes out in front of my clasmates.

Quasi-military... using OUR idea of a military. We've seen how good Equestrian 'military' is, so can't really compare the two. They are first and foremost stunt flyers, any 'military' thing comes second. While modeled on the blue angles in what they do, who are military officers first, then stunt pilots. Wonderbolts seem to be the opposite, Stunt flyers first, who then get chosen to act as air support when needed due to being the best flyers.

And, ummm, lot of fighter pilots tend to be fairly cocky. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you can back it up, and don't let it get in the way of working with the rest of your team. Which until RD told Spitfire the shit LD was up to when she wasn't looking, how would she know? The whole point of the academy was to test this stuff, see what ponies were good, and confident enough to be Wonderbolts, but who wouldn't do the shit LD did that WOULD get other killed through not giving a fuck about anypony but yourself.

Again, this was NOT her letting LD on the team, the ENTIRE POINT of the academy was to test this stuff.

You guys realize that pointing out how bad Equestria's military is actually helps my point, right? They have literally one job and the lives of hundreds or thousands are on the line when they fail.

@ JT: I can totally see Spitfire being put out by that mistake of Soarin's. But a leader doesn't use underhanded tactics to replace them whenthey do that, they give them a good talking to ensure that they never do something so incredibly stupid again, and if it's bad enough, replace them but inform them about it and tell them the real reason why.

@ Seraphem: Fighter pilots are cocky outside of the cockpit.

[up]I'm actually hoping they're going for that, it would be really cool.

I think Meta put it best. And I DO think that's where they're going with it. They're obviously great at flying, but they need work on other aspects, and RD can be a part of that growth.

People like that get their teammates killed.

Well in Equestria, it's more like getting injured for a couple days tops but still.

@Marcen: If your still here, just thought you should know that IMO the 2nd Kick Ass movie is just as good as the first one, if not slightly better too.

Also, now I wonder how long it'll take before someone goes and does a Ron the Death Eater type fic about Spitfire, given the debate over her actions in the recent episode.

And the only time Spitfire talked to LD, was outside. All she saw of her flying was the results, which worked, and the only pony hat knew the shit she was pulling was RD, who said nothing till the end, and the INSTANT Spitfire found out, she kicked LD's ass right the fuck out.

You re overstating just how "military" the Wonderbolt's are. They aren't who they are because they are some military organization, they get tasked with the stuff they do, simply because they are the best flyers. Their flying comes first, then anything else they get asked to do. They are more like national guard then Air Force. And even then, that's a bit stronger then what they seem to be. They are NOT a military organization. They are civilians, who sometimes get drafted to help out in situations because of their skills.

She wan't replacing Soarin on the Wonderbolts, just the Relay team, and yeah dick move, but understandable. And, again at this point, they were NOT there as Wonderbolts, but just three ponies who come from Cloudsdale.

@CDRW: I think Meta summed it up pretty well. Spitfire is flawed and fallible, but not to the degree that she's a terrible person. She's just not-perfect.

@ Seraphem: I said quasi-military. And I made a point of including in my post the fact that non-military groups who perform in similar circumstances to the Wonderbolts still don't put up with that crap. When people's lives are on the line, there's no room for fuck-ups,there's no room for shady dealings, and there's no excuse for not monitoring your charges.

[up]As a person, yeah, she's simply flawed, but as a leader of an elite group, she's unconscionable. If what we've seen is indicitave of how she runs things, she should not hold the responsibility that she does.

@Story Well...I didn't think the movie was that bad. It has faults, sure, but it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Shame, I wanted a few movies to be cranked out from the series.
