A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I think Twilight was just talking about the underlying situation: Rainbow Dash's dilemma was essentially whether she prioritizes her friends over being on the best team, or vice versa. Choosing neither group ultimately leaves that unresolved. It was technically a choice, but not the choice that was causing her problem.
To use your college example, not choosing any college is a choice: no college. But choosing "I'll figure out whether to go to college A, college B, or not go to college at all later" isn't a choice; it's procrastination.
I.e. Yes RD can choose "Wonderbolts, Ponyville, or not flying", but the real issue is "do I care more about my friends or about being on the winning team?" Rainbow Dash was basically trying to avoid addressing the issue and Twilight was pointing that out. I seriously doubt she was saying that RD literally hadn't decided anything, just that RD was leaving the issue unresolved.
@Story: Both, kinda.

Reaction Image RepositoryAlso- did this actually happen? https://derpibooru.org/527851
I know about Neon Lights but not about Lemon Hearts. Is it legit?
We used to have Surprise.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayMeta makes a very good point.
... so does that make Twilight a hypocrite?
http://h0useb0und.tumblr.com/Is it just me, or do the Wonderbolts come off as more and more morally bankrupt and incompetent as we learn more about them?
It was one thing when it happened the first time, but having the Wonderbolts fill the role of "insensitive jerks that set up an aesop" twice in a row strikes me with some unfortunate implications.
"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."Except Spitfire and Fleetfoot were both clearly in on the lie together (if their non-plussed reaction to Rainbow confronting them means anything). Neither Spitfire nor Fleetfoot sees anything wrong with their behavior until Rainbow points it out.
Just left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since Spitfire allegedly learns something similar in Wonderbolt Academy.
"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."Ike,yes, that did happen.
,I already posted that picture here, but nobody cared.

ALL THAT YOU ARE IS A FACE IN A MIRROR,IL CLOSE MY EYES AND YOU'LL DISSAPEAR.They're technically not acting as Wonderbolts. Their participation in the games is technically off-duty.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Yeah, at the start.
Afterwards, it was tracksuits that were stylized like Wonderbolt uniforms.

Obviously they're not irredeemable, as the Wonderbolts have responded receptively to Rainbow Dash's criticism. It just seems like, once Dash is officially a Wonderbolt, they'll be learning as much from Dash as she learns from them.
@Clever: I think "morally bankrupt" is overstating it. The only morally questionable thing they did was lie to Soarin about how bad his injury was, and even then it may have just been an exaggeration of the truth. It might have been true that Soarin wasn't 100% recovered. Might have been far enough along to fly, but they decided they'd rather have 100% healthy RD on their team than 80% healthy Soarin'.
Also, let's face it, a lot of cast members have done things that are similarly selfish, and nobody calls them morally bankrupt. The only difference is that this time we saw it from the other perspective.
Also this. We should remember that the point of the Wonderbolts is that they're really good at flying. Being amazing athletes doesn't mean that they're going to be good at other stuff. I actually kinda like the fact that the show is splitting the difference. The Wonderbolts aren't paragons of awesome like Dash makes them out to be, but the show didn't make it a full Broken Pedestal situation either. They're very good at what they do, but they aren't infallible either.

Reaction Image RepositoryActually, they didn't even lie to Soarin - he was fully aware that they reasoned he might not be at 100% for the competition. They did, however, lie to Dash about his Injury. It was Sorain who actually revealed the lie to her in the first place, you'll recall.
So, I mean, yeah, they did lie... just, details.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I still find it weird that they'd lie about it.
