A thread to discuss My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the tie-in media.
All of the usual forum rules
apply. In addition, please remember that the thread is discussing a kids' show, and it's primarily focused on the work itself, not the fanfic — in particular, we don't want to see lewdness creeping in.

I would point out that you know a zombie who could easily do that if you asked, but since "to zombify someone" can mean something different depending on what undead circles you hang out with, I won't.
Anyway, I finally managed to watch the episode, and I have a few observations.
- So, why did RD feel the need to compete in a team event? She strikes me as the kind of person who would want to compete in a solo event, and even if they managed to qualify, I doubt RD can compensate for her team enough for them to actually win anything at the Games.
- Is it just me, or were AJ, Rarity and Pinkie Pie a bit... one-note this episode? I mean, even if they aren't the focus, you don't have to have them doing the exact same thing the entire time.
- I'm glad that Twilight recognized Rainbow wasn't making a choice, though I'd call it avoiding the choice rather than choosing not to choose.
- Spitfire and Fleetfoot seemed a bit jerkish this episode. I could buy everything they did up until it was revealed they lied to Soarin in order to get RD on their team. That's just not cool.
- I don't get why RD felt the need to hide what she was doing before the Wonderbolts actually offered to let her join the team. Up until that point, she thought she was just helping them practice while Soarin healed, which I'm sure her friends would understand.
- I would trust Derpy to lead the Ponyville team to victory.
- Bulk Biceps screams like a little girl.
- And we have the Loyalty key. Now we still need Kindness, Laughter, Honesty and Magic.
One small thing that happened in this episode was that Soarin got a new cutie mark.
Not sure how many people noticed. I guess they thought it wouldn't make sense for his mark to be the Wonderbolt's symbol.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Watched the episode, missed the stream. Well, slap me silly and call me cynical, Derpy really did come back... unnamed and silent!
I do like they gave an excuse for why other Ponyville ponies like Thunderlane weren't on the team, they're on the other Ponyville teams.
Griffons! Nice little background detail.
Ah, and so Fleetfoot has a different eye color & cutie mark than she does in the comic. Animation Lead Time vs Comic Book Lead Time at work, I suspect. She's...kinda a bitch.
I want you all to consider that Derpy, the pony who brought in that little flag the rainbow shined on and gave Dash the Rainbow Shimmer in her eye, may be responsible for putting Dash on the road to getting Rainbow Power. Though its not the key item, apparently, that appears to be the pin thing Spitfire gave.
So, Coco gives pool of thread, Spitfire gives Wonderbolts pin... Cheese Sandwich gives an accordion?
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!I thought the episode was good. I was a little concerned that, this being Friend-or-Idol Decision episode, the Jerkass Ball would be dropped in. While Spitefire and Fleetfoot did hold onto it, it didn't involve demeaning anyone. Rather it came from the fact that they immediately wanted to replace Soarin and not even check on him (as a couple of lines that made them look sleazy). Yeah, it was very dickish, enough to really warrant that What the Hell, Hero?, but they didn't fully cross the line for me.

@death Cloud Thank you for your kind words, though I am unaware of the context behind such a word as sock puppet. If I understand the meaning correctly, I was given to think sock puppets were articles of clothing placed over an appendage with a comical suggestion of a face.
This is no time for frivolities.Probably off to be a slut. Or eat fried chicken.
Not That There's Anything Wrong with That

And the opening.
-Well, knew that would be his name. And so weird not hearing him just scream "yeah".
- Why is the aerial team RD, Fluttershy and bulk? RD is obvious but, why the other two? What happened to ALL the other pegasi that could fly way better?
- How did this pony qualify for the Wonderbolts Academy? He didn't seem to have these flying issues there.
- Pinkie... calm the fuck down, even for you this is a tad annoying.
- ...... yeah, they're screwed.
Okay, she did give Rainbow Dash that medallion at the end, but I think that's pushing it. I can see that argument working with Wonderbolts Academy, but not here.

The stream hiccuped a bit for me while I was watching the episode, so I need somebody to clarify: did Spitfire and Fleetfoot explicitly lie about Soarin's injury, or was it more of a case that they didn't realize how serious it actually was? Because it may be plausible that they thought he was injured worse than he really was.
That and I think the jerkness was minimized slightly by the fact that Soarin' injured himself in an extremely stupid way, so they might be a partially justified by being frustrated at him for potentially damaging the team's overall performance by not paying attention.
As for why RD can't compete individually, given Equestria's focus on friendship and working together, it's possible that they designed the national events to be a demonstration of unity and to demonstrate teamwork.
Reaction Image Repository@Luminosity: I don't know. He seemed to fly just fine in Hurricane Flutteshy
(slower than the rest, but enough to help maintain the hurricane) and it did seem like you need to qualify before going to Wonderbolt Academy since Rainbow Dash needed to get a letter first.
@Japanese Teeth: They didn't even check to see if he was okay, though. Heck, according to Soarin, they didn't check on him at all. At least that's what I remember.

Hey Sunset Shimmer, two things:
1: It's Marston, not Martson, you big moron.
2: Yeah Twilight might look ridiculous, but she's still the one who became a princess and is also Celestia's favorite student. That's more then what can be said for you.
